Let's see Paul's declaration, I keep under my body, underscore, the discipline required to remain faithful. There is a Greek term which is known as "hupopiazo", which means to "subdue". And this shows Paul's relentless effort, knowing how to control his fleshy desires.
He also knew that when we preach to others, it is not usually enough. He had his own path to play with God by abiding to God's will. We should be very cautious in what we do. This is always a powerful warning to even all believers, that no matter how great our talents, our spiritual gifts may be, we must retain a deep knowledge, we must be vigilant spiritually.
So the teaching of Brother Eli in this time has given us a challenge as believers to keep reflecting on our life as we subdue our flesh, our own selfish desires that will cost us our glory in the eyes of God.
Paul's example shows that even though we have been chosen by God, it does not guarantee our own success. We need to obey, we need to be humble. And we need to improve self-control in our life. We need to live a life of freedom. Always making sure our life reflects what we really proclaim. So we may stand approved at the end, before God.
