In my reflection of Brother Eli's teaching about idolatry and spiritual blindness, I've come to realize how relevant these messages are to our generation.
There has been an emphasis that those who create and trust the idols will eventually become like them. When we have our eyes that cannot see or ears that cannot hear, this statement really has struck me because it reflects not just our physical blindness but also deafness.
This offers a profound spiritual condition. When people replace true God with material things or false gods, their hearts and minds become so dumb. And they become so interred to the divine truth.
In Psalm 115:4-8, it shows that idols are just lifeless, powerless in the hands of men. This is the reality. Brother Eli explained that those who put their faith in such things can lose their spiritual sense. They might hear the word of God but they fail to listen.
They fail to do what they do according to the will of God. This is because in 2 Corinthians 4:4, this will be that the God of this world, Satan blinds their minds and also prevents them from the light of the gospel that is preaching to them.
Today, idolatry is not just about statues or images. It comes when we evaluate faith and the ideas of humans more than God. So Brother Eli is trying to give us a cup call. To turn away from this false worship and we should open these hearts to a living God who truly sees and saves.
