At the Hive Summit in Aachen we invited @lordbutterfly on stage to talk about the film Freechain. Instead of giving a long presentation, we kept it open with questions from the audience and the livestream.
He shared how the idea for the film first came from a Hive comment. The goal was to see if a story that lived only on the blockchain could be turned into a film for a wider audience. It was a challenge to shape those events into a script, but with the help of an award-winning director and a strong team the project became reality. The use of a narrator gave the film a fresh style and helped move away from a traditional documentary format.
The film tells the story of a key chapter in Hive’s history, including the conflicts that led to the creation of Hive and the struggles around lost and returned funds. What made the project special was that it did not stay inside the Hive community. About ninety percent of the viewers so far have been from outside, including film festivals, universities and industry professionals. This shows that the story of Hive has meaning beyond our own circle.
For us as organizers it was powerful to see the film screened in Aachen after its earlier premiere. It sparked strong emotions and reminded everyone that Hive is not just technology, but a community with real stories worth telling.
