One of the highlights at the Hive Summit in Aachen was the presentation from @michaelreischer, who introduced the Berlin Rebels, a long-standing American football team playing in Germany’s top league, the GFL. Founded in 1987, the Rebels are part of a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity across Europe, with millions tuning in to watch the Super Bowl and thousands attending local games.
Michael shared how the team has begun its journey on Hive by creating a community account to post updates, photos, and highlights from game days. While football is a sport full of energy and emotion, he pointed out the challenge of sharing videos and making it easy for fans to engage directly on Hive. The vision goes further: every team in the GFL, and eventually the league itself, could one day be represented on Hive, creating a network of fans, clubs, and federations.
As an amateur club funded mainly by sponsors and supporters, the Rebels are also exploring how Hive can open new ways of raising funds and building community. Ideas such as a team token or fan-driven voting for decisions were discussed, highlighting how blockchain can add value through participation and engagement.
The session closed with an invitation to the Hive community: to share ideas, test approaches, and help grow American football in Germany through Hive. It was a moment that showed how sports, fans, and blockchain can come together to create something bigger than the game itself.
