The culture of drinking tea in a quiet meditation space is a long-standing cultural feature of Asians. Recently by chance we discovered a modern Zen Tea house located in North Sydney. Hidden in a corner of Victoria Avenue. Even though their store is not very big, it is sure to catch the attention of anyone passing by. To be honest, we had not originally intended to enjoy tea at the store. My husband's coworkers have been complimenting the lychee cake in this shop non-stop, which makes us extremely curious because he is not even a sweet eater. And I would have to say yes, it didn't let us down. We had come a long way from Western Sydney to North Sydney to have the lychee cake and we ended up taking away a few more flavors home for my family.
That was a unique and tranquil tea bar with the modern concept of promoting a huge range of Artisans Tea from the tea mountains of Yunnan, China. The store is near Chatswood train station but hidden in Victoria Ave, so it took us a while to find even though we followed the Google Map.
The space inside the shop is very quiet and has a meditative atmosphere. There were already a few guests sitting inside before we arrived, but everyone was trying to talk very quietly so as not to make too much noise. We were supposed to order a hot tea pot but it was a hot day so we ended up with an ice lychee tea and a lychee chiffon cake which our friend highly recommended. I'm not a fan of sweets or desserts but have to confirm both of them were very nice. The chiffon cake is light and moist, perfect sweet balance while the lychee tea is very fragrant, has a strong tea flavor and also not too sweet. The best thing is they don't add any artificial flavor which I hated a lot. The lychee is actually fresh lychee and no artificial color at all. It was a very aromatic cake with dried rose petals that was paired very well with lychee.
Tea Journal is absolutely a place for tea lovers. They offer a huge range of tea from white teas, green teas, black teas, Oolong teas or even floral and herbal tea. You can buy their tea to enjoy at home or as a gift for family and friends. Their paper packaging with a nice design that is very environmentally friendly.
The owner has done his best to create a serene atmosphere in a small space, even though it isn't too big. This creates an environment where anyone who walks in wants to find tranquility. Every little detail is taken care of carefully.
The chiffon cake was just so good. So we decided to order 2 more flavours to take away. One was their best seller Black Tea Rose & Pistachio and the other was Mango Coconut cake. They both looked pretty especially the Tea Rose cake. What makes me like the most is the chiffon cake is very like and airy, also packed with aromas that we do not mind coming back again eventhough the long distance.
If you are in Sydney, I highly recommend to come and try their cakes, they also come with big size for the event or party that you can order online on their website. It's time to support the small business after the pandemic so we would like to go around and try more places as we can. I hope you enjoy today post! Have a great weekend!!!
