Beach Day! ⛱️

@hlezama · 2025-08-24 03:39 · Weekend Experiences

For the first time since we moved to Caracas (16 months ago) we had the chance to go the beach. Caracas, being a valley across the mountain (Cerro Ávila) does not have beaches, to get to one You have to drive down to La Guaira or Litoral Central.

My nephew and his family invited us and we could not say no to that.

We love the beach, but @manunune was advised by her doctors to avoid it, so we had been reluctant to go. Today was the only chance my nephew had before he goes on vacation with his family, so we took the ride. @manujune stayed home. Hopefully, by year's end, when treatment is over, she will get the green light.

The short trip was Nice. Pretty sights to see. Others not so pretty, but interesting, though.

This are along the Caracas -La Guaira highway is the first things touristic who arrive by plane see of our country, so at least some efforts have been made to make it look good.

The mighty Cerro Ávila separates Caracas from the litoral, but was tamed by technology and ingenuity in the years our country seemed unstopable on its way to development (we are talking about the 1950s-60s here🤭).

30 minutes later, we were entering La Guaira.

There aren't many tall buildings, these are some of the ones we saw .

The colonial part is well preserved. I hope we can come back and walk along this part.

My niece was supposed to choose the beach, but she was not sure how far we were. Since it was already a bit late, she stopped at a random beach: Playa Los Corales (Coral beach).

They had been to other ones in the area, so we took it as an experiment. The beaches along this coast vary in different aspects: waves, sand, rocks, and services.

This one was was a bit dirty by the shore. Waves were not too violent for children and water temperature was perfect, but the bottom was full of slippery rocks. After you passed the rocks there was a nice sand to step on, but by then it was too deep to enjoy without feeling the waves might drag you to a hole.

Despite that, we had a great time. We swam cautiously and since the sun was already setting, we didn't have to worry about getting sunburnt. We drank some beers, ate some snacks, chatted, and enjoyed the view and the fresh salty air.

I must say the sunset was awesome (even though people in Cumaná argue its sunsets are the best).

We drove back at about 7:30. No incidents on the beach and great night sights on the road.

These are a couple of places we would like to visit some other day.

There was a bit of traffic, as it is normal here at that time of the day, but considering it was a weekend, it was pretty good.

We arrived home quite exhausted and ready to sleep, but it took me forever to finish the post 🤭
