Sometimes I ask myself what’s the point of investing so much into the formal system of acquiring knowledge when I can just get it through other means. Well, education here in my country is not the best that there is but then, it has always been part of the things I want to accomplish and I think it is and will be totally worth it as long as it doesn’t act as a threat to me in any other way I deem necessary. What does that mean? As long as acquiring official knowledge doesn’t affect me in other areas that I hold at higher priority, then I’m good to go. And so far so good, I haven’t had any issues that can’t be fixed.

According to the hivelearners topic edition 2, we are asked to discuss on **STILL WORTH IT?** For me, education is important and always worth giving a try. I have had times when I doubt this and just want to give up on achieving this goal but then, that also is the reason that keeps me going. Schools in my country are not encouraging at all but I know why I’m acquiring this knowledge and it’s not for them. Of course it will be of benefit to them but first it is to me.
It gets harder. But as long as you can afford it, go for it. For those that don’t have enough resources and sponsors, you can just put in effort to be brilliant and there will be people who just want to help you, hopefully. If not, you can as well venture into other ways to become useful to yourself and those around you. Today, not having enough money is not really an excuse but it can be. There are more opportunities for scholarships these days but too sad, so many people have become too dependent on external help and they find it hard to study so they are barely average students and most times they just choose the easy way out which is blaming the government and the school system.
Of course, the system is compromised and needs fixing but then if that is the major reason for thinking acquiring formal education is not worth it, I’m forced to think that you are only just taking the easy way out. And as for the system, they can improve in so many ways like helping students focus more on learning what they are interested in than bombarding them with so many knowledge that they find it hard to understand. Systems should try to adapt the method of making students have a niche, a specialization from the start. Once this is made possible, they will on their own see the need of wanting to acquire more knowledge on different fields and that will be a good way to go.

But the moment they have to just read to pass exams, I think that defeats the whole purpose of learning. Sadly, the educational system judges a good student by how well they perform in examinations and that is both an advantage and also disadvantage to students. Most top students just read to pass these days and even though they understand, they already have the wrong idea of learning and that is due to the fact that students are exposed to too much information at the same time. Sometimes I really wonder why we have to rush the process knowing fully well that we all assimilate things differently.
I believe if that can be improved on, things will be different and better over time. And going to school would be worth it more for most of us if not all. But the question is, will this happen? No one knows and that’s why we just have to keep pushing ourselves as much as we can. If you can’t cope with the system, like I said, there are so many ways to acquire knowledge and you should opt for the one that is best for you but as for me, acquiring a formal knowledge is worth it for me. I just want to see to the end of it and see where it leads me.
Thank you for reading through. ❤️
