BEHIND THE SMILE

Life won’t always be smooth. Today, while scrolling through my WhatsApp status, I saw a post that spoke to me. It was an image of an injured horse with the rider on it. The injury on the horse was caused as a result of the riders shoes hurting the horse but the horse couldn’t speak up so it just kept going and the rider didn’t have any idea about the pain it was inflicting on the horse either. The lesson was short, which is; sometimes we might be going through some sort of pain that we can’t really voice out and sometimes, we might be the cause of the hidden pain of others without knowing it.  The thing is, we all are going through one pain or another at different times but not everyone can voice out the pain they feel within. It is easy to blame them for not wanting to speak up, I mean, I have done that so many times before. But then, thinking about it by putting myself in their shoes, I’m beginning to realize and accept the fact that some things just feel lighter (that’s what they think) to some people if they bare it all alone. Especially when no one is asking to share in their pains and whatever is going on with them. Just like that horse, we have so many people that are locked away in their minds and they struggle daily to share whatever it is that they are going through but sometimes, it might be so visible only if someone just looks a little closer. We keep telling ourselves that, we all have one or two things going on for us and we can’t add someone else’s problems to ours but then, it is something worth doing and we shouldn’t neglect it. It’s even worse when we are the ones inflicting this pain on them without us knowing it. Just imagine finding out someone ended up some way because of our negligence and careless actions towards them. Life is indeed not easy for everyone at some points but then, when we have it going well for us, we shouldn’t hide away from reaching out to as many people that we can reach our to, especially those around us. Sometimes because they are so close to us we easily neglect them and that’s understandable but we can try to do better and care more for those around us.
