Holiday is another word for a free day and it is always nice to have a free day for me! You get the opportunity to do things without having to worry so much about deadlines or being too scared of lazing around. Holidays give us time to relax and get our thoughts together and also give us the chance to strategize and most importantly, to take break from all the stressful things we have to deal with daily. Holidays only make more sense to us when we have a job that takes our time and keep us away from engaging in some activities we would have normally love to do.

For this second edition of the hivelearners topic, we are asked to share our thoughts on whether or not we want more holidays in a year or not. As a student, we are always looking forward to holidays because it gives us the chance to sleep properly and also eat well. We are always eager to run home to be taken care of but for some reasons, my school is very stingy with the length of holidays given to students. We barely spend a month at home after exams before a new session or semester commences. And because of this, I’m both happy that I’m going to be done with this degree soon but at the same time, I sometimes wish they give us more holidays to rest well and prepare better for a new session or semester.
There are some holidays that are given in between semesters and most of the time, I’m always happy about those holidays and wish that it could be extended but in the end, there is nothing I can do about it so I’m just grateful that I at least got a day or two free from lectures and school related activities. Left for me, a mid semester holiday will be a great idea but sadly it doesn’t work that way.
Looking at the state of my country, it is a bit worrisome these days because people barely get time to themselves and even their families because there is much work to be done to make sure the family is doing well financially. So for a lot of workers, they see holidays as distractions and would rather keep working to make more money than take more time to rest. So based on that, I think it is better to stick with the holidays we already have rather than adding more to it, but definitely not taking away from it.
I don’t think giving people more days off to rest will in anyway affect the economy though. In fact, I think it will be good for the economy because people won’t have to always need to work under pressure. Yes, for some, working under pressure brings the best results but it is good to have some break and engage in some less brainy activities and get refueled.

My plans after school is not to work the traditional way of 9-5 daily. I want to be a remote worker and that way I can always get the holiday that I need when I want to. I can be able to schedule my time better the way that it works for me. I’m actually only worrying about needing more holidays because I’m still a student and the truth is being a student can be overwhelming sometimes that you just want a break which most times you won’t get.
But working at my own time and pace will give me access to rest when I need to because I decide when I need an holiday or work for long hours and that also gives me more time to spend with my family without worrying about facing any penalties. This is only possible thanks to the continuous advancements in science and technology. And even if I find myself working the traditional way, I’m sure that will only be temporary, maybe just for acquiring more experience in a particular field and that won’t matter to me because it will be part of a plan that allows for less holidays.
Thank you for reading through. ❤️
