I’m not sure if this is the best way to put it. Is there anything like a lie of omission? Well, I think it’s best to say truth of omission. One can only omit things when they are saying the truth. A lie is a lie. We sometimes call it half baked truth. Most times, we find ourselves in a situations when we don’t want to lie to people but we can’t also just can’t tell them the truth and that’s when we rather just tell them the half baked truth, lie or say nothing. For me, I tell this kind of half baked truth by leaving whoever wants to know the truth to just ask me questions and answering it as straightforwardly as possible. Not adding anything that I know might be the reason why they are asking that question.

So it will be their luck if they can ask the right questions, only then can they get the right answers. I know a lot of people don’t enjoy lying. I try as much as possible not to lie and when I know I can’t say the truth, I avoid saying anything related and just leave the person to assume whatever they want to assume. Or I give them the half baked truth. Sometimes it’s annoying because they put me in a place when I will have no choice but to lie to them or just even tell them the truth. These days, we tell lies because we think that’s the only way we can survive in this adulthood. As children, we are trained to always tell the truth but somehow, becoming adults, we think we are wiser and smarter so we can tell lies for good reasons.
If there is one thing that I have come to realize anytime I tell a lie whether or not it goes well, it is that I was too scared or too proud to tell the truth. It is only in rare cases that I actually see the need to lie to maybe save someone and not myself. When it comes to the lie of omission, we most times are just feeling guilty or trying to avoid being tagged a liar. We try to hide the truth because we think it’s the best approach to things. And if we think of it this way, it only means that we have all given up on the fact that we can’t stop lying. In fact, it is a must that as adults we tell lies.

Well, I still tell lies but we all know that a lie is a lie and there are consequences for telling lies whether for good or bad reasons. Whether half baked or not. As children, we are trained in the way we should grow so that when we are old we won’t depart from it. So if as children we know the dangers of lying only to become adults and see the need to lie, that is really scary. But then, there are times we have to use our discretion to know when to be honest with people but the moment it becomes an habit, there is no more excuse for us.
I can’t remember any exact experience I have had but I always ended up regretting telling a lie of omission because I only just ended up lying but I try to do better every time. And this is one reason I don’t try to make people say things when I notice they are not saying the truth. I help them to avoid lying as much as I can. But I hope they find the perfect time to tell the truth since that’s always what we say in our defense.
Thanks for reading through. ❤️
