As humans, letting go of old habits have always been hard. Sometimes it even feels impossible. We think it isn’t possible to just let go of certain things because of how deeply we are rooted in it already. Some years back, I had a very bad habit of always taking up my phone first before doing any other thing. I don’t meditate or even attend to the necessary things. I just move my hand straight to wherever my phone was and start scrolling through from where I had stopped the previous day.

But now, it’s a different story all together. To think that I actually thought that it wasn’t possible to stop at once. I was wrong. It was on one fateful day I made up my mind not to pick up my phone first before everything else no matter what except for an emergency call. The moment I made up my mind, I acted immediately and didn’t give myself the chance to think that change is and can’t be sudden and that was it. Now, I do a little meditation before picking up my phone to study a little then turning on my internet connection. That way, I’m less distracted and more productive the whole day.
The absence of that habit has given me more time to focus on the important things and not just starting my day with no direction. Now, I have a more structured schedule of how to start my morning and go through my day to make the most of it. Now, my phone has less control of my time than it was before and I’m happy about it.

Being able to let go of such an habit tells so much of how my minimalist lifestyle has affected different aspects of my life - mostly physically. I have become more conscious of myself and intentional about how I do things. It seems like something little but it has turned into something big over time. I have been able to achieve more in a short time than I could when I stayed with that habit.
I remember I almost went back to that old habit but this time, it felt like the odd one and not the normal thing for me to do. I quickly realized and dropped my phone and follow the new routine I have chosen for myself. Unlike most other times when I’ll say I want to do something and failed, this particular one made me realized that I can do anything I truly set my mind to and that’s one power of leading a minimalist life.
Thank you for reading through. 💜
