There are countless things you can 3D print for Halloween, from eerie skulls to glowing pumpkins.
After watching Matthias Schwaighofer’s presentation of his Halloween mug, I decided to print exactly that one.
The best part is that you can design and paint the mug entirely according to your own taste.
So, I let my imagination run free, and this spooky creation was born.

Es gibt unzählige Dinge, die man zu Halloween drucken kann – von unheimlichen Totenköpfen bis zu leuchtenden Kürbissen.
Nach der Vorstellung von Matthias Schwaighofer habe ich mich entschieden, genau diesen Halloween-Krug zu drucken.
Das Schöne daran ist, dass man ihn ganz nach den eigenen Vorstellungen gestalten und bemalen kann. Also ließ ich meiner Fantasie freien Lauf, und so entstand dieses schaurig-schöne Unikat.

🖨️ Printing Phase – Druckphase

The base model comes from Cults3D 🔗.
I printed it on my Bambu Lab P1S using Sunlu PLA with tree supports.
The print took about 14 hours to complete.
Even right after printing, the mug already had a strong character with its twisted vines, the gnarled handle and that sinister pumpkin grin.

After removing the supports, I carefully cleaned the print and prepared it for painting.

Der Druck dauerte etwa 14 Stunden, bis er vollständig fertig war.

Nachdem die Stützen entfernt waren, wurde der Krug sorgfältig gereinigt und für die Bemalung vorbereitet.

🎨 Painting and Effects – Bemalung und Effekte

To begin the painting process, I used Chaos Black from Citadel as a primer.
It covers extremely well, requires only a small amount, and dries very quickly – perfect for bringing out every fine detail of the print.

After that, I applied several layers of warm brown tones for the wooden areas and added dry-brushed highlights to create a natural, aged wood effect.
The lower section received a mix of stone-gray and beige tones to give it a rough, almost skeletal appearance.

For the colors, I didn’t use any specific brand – I simply worked with whatever paints I had available. Sometimes, creativity matters far more than sticking to a name on a label.

The neon green glow in the pumpkin’s eyes, nose and mouth became the visual centerpiece. The strong contrast between the deep orange and the bright green gave the mug a truly haunting appearance.

To add a final eerie touch, I applied rust effects and small blood splatters to the axe, making it look as if it had already seen more than one dark Halloween night.
Finally, I sealed everything with a layer of clear gloss varnish to protect the paint and intensify the colors.

Zu Beginn der Bemalung kam Chaos Black von Citadel als Grundierung zum Einsatz. Es deckt hervorragend, man benötigt nur wenig davon, und es trocknet sehr schnell – ideal, um feine Strukturen hervorzuheben.

Anschließend folgten mehrere Schichten warmer Brauntöne für die Holzpartien. Durch Trockenbürsten entstanden feine Highlights, die den Eindruck von gealtertem Holz verstärken. Der untere Bereich wurde mit steinfarbenen und beigen Tönen bemalt, was ihm ein raues, fast skelettartiges Aussehen verleiht.

Ich habe keine bestimmte Farbmarke verwendet, sondern einfach das genutzt, was gerade da war. Manchmal zählt die Kreativität mehr als die Marke auf der Flasche.

Das leuchtende Neongrün in Augen, Nase und Mund wurde zum Mittelpunkt des Designs. Der starke Kontrast aus dunklem Orange und grellem Grün verlieh dem Krug einen unheimlichen, lebendigen Ausdruck.

Als krönender Abschluss erhielt die Axtklinge realistische Rosteffekte und feine Blutspritzer, die sie wirken lassen, als hätte sie schon einige dunkle Nächte erlebt. Zum Schutz und für mehr Tiefe trug ich zum Schluss eine Schicht klaren Glanzlacks auf.

🍺 The Result – Das Ergebnis

The finished mug doesn’t just look hauntingly good – it’s also fully functional.
It fits 0.5 L or 0.33 L cans, and even a regular drinking glass.
Perfect for a spooky Halloween evening with a cold drink, while watching horror movies or decorating the table for a party.

Der fertige Krug sieht nicht nur unheimlich gut aus, sondern ist auch voll funktionsfähig. Er fasst 0,5- oder 0,33-Liter-Dosen und sogar ein normales Trinkglas.
Perfekt für einen schaurigen Halloween-Abend mit einem kühlen Getränk, beim Gruselfilm oder als eindrucksvolle Tischdekoration.

🕯️ Final Thoughts – Schlussgedanken

Sometimes, the best creations arise from imagination, patience and a little madness.
This Halloween mug now proudly sits in my workshop, waiting for the time of year when pumpkins glow, shadows dance and every flicker of light tells a story.

Manchmal entstehen die schönsten Kreationen aus Fantasie, Geduld und einer kleinen Portion Wahnsinn.
Dieser Halloween-Krug steht nun stolz in meiner Werkstatt und wartet auf jene Jahreszeit, in der Kürbisse leuchten, Schatten tanzen und jedes Licht eine Geschichte erzählt.
