Aunque no los veamos, los jóvenes jugadores de fútbol, las estrellas que mañana disfrutaremos jugando en el Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United y otros grandes de Europa, comenzaron, en el día de ayer, a disputar el mundial Sub-20 en Chile, nuestro vecino país.
Por causas no del todo aclaradas, son muy pocos los medios periodísticos deportivos y aficionados a este deporte en particular, que prestan atención a lo que ocurre, pese a que la historia demuestra que muchos de los más grandes futbolistas de todos los tiempos, en su momento, han jugado el mundial de la categoría.
Los que seguro están ahí, haciendo su trabajo en silencio y tratando de no despertar sospechas ni interés particular, son los cazatalentos, los intermediarios y algunos otros que medran entre la juventud dedicada al fútbol. Eso de pasar desapercibido es bastante utópico por dos motivos: primero, porque la mayoría de estos intermediarios y reclutadores se conocen y no se pueden ocultar; el segundo es porque los más jóvenes talentos ya han sido descubiertos casi desde la cuna y la mayoría de ellos han sido captados por los más importantes clubes del mundo.

Pero hagamos un repaso de las estadísticas y nombres, algo que siempre utilizo como base para mis comentarios y aseveraciones. Los países con más triunfos en el mundial de esta categoría son Argentina con 6 títulos y Brasil con 5, no extraña a nadie porque de esta parte del mundo surgen la mayoría de los grandes jugadores, pese a que en los últimos tiempos los africanos y sus descendientes han demostrado que también ellos pueden tratar bien a la pelota, ejemplos sobran.
Dentro de los principales jugadores de renombre que han disputado este mundial se encuentran por supuesto Lionel Messi campeón en en 2005 en Paises Bajos, Diego Maradona, campeón en Japón 1979, Paul Pogba, campeón en Turquía 2013, Sergio "Kum" Aguero bicampeón en 2005 y 2007, Andrés Iniesta formó parte de la delegación española en Emiratos Árabes en 2003, anteriormente Xavi Hernandez hizo lo propio en Nigeria 1999 junto a Iker Casillas, Ronaldinho jugó para Brasil también en aquel mundial de Nigeria; Luis Figo participó en 1991 en el mundial disputado en su país y Michael Owen jugó el de 1997 en Malasia.

Como si con esa lista no alcanzara, podemos mencionar a Javier Saviola y Carlos Tévez, campeones en el mundial disputado en Argentina en 2001, y Ángel Di María, campeón en Canadá en 2007. Kaká y Adriano disputaron el mundial de 2001 en Argentina. Luis Suarez y Edison Cavani jugaron para Uruguay en el Mundial de Canadá 2007. Por último, Erling Haaland , que en Polonia en 2019 se dio a conocer convirtiendo 9 goles contra Honduras.
En el día de ayer comenzaron las acciones, Japón y Chile vencieron en sus respectivos encuentros por el grupo A, Ucrania y Paraguay hicieron lo propio por el grupo B, hoy será el turno de Argentina que se enfrenta a Cuba en un encuentro que solo tiene 4 antecedentes previos. También será el debut de Italia, Brasil, España y México, todos ellos integrantes de los grupos C y D, una fecha con mucho atractivo que quizás permita ir delineando quiénes serán favoritos para llegar a las instancias finales.
