El término kamikaze hace alusión a la segunda guerra mundial, específicamente a Japón y esa decisión extrema y desesperada de intentar dar vuelta la historia de una derrota segura enviando a sus jóvenes al sacrificio intentando estrellar sus aviones sobre la flota aliada.
Una decisión que hoy en día aun levanta revuelo y divide a la tranquila población nipona entre aquellos que consideran esa acción como un acto de heroismo extremo y los que creen que fue una tragedia más entre tantas que la guerra trajo a los habitantes de las islas, una decisión provocada por los jefes militares desesperados ante la inminente derrota.
En realidad, el término proviene de una referencia histórica que se convirtió en mito durante el siglo XIII, en aquel tiempo, los mongoles intentaron en dos oportunidades invadir Japón y en sendos ataques los tifones y tormentas destruyeron al invasor, algo que los japoneses consideraron un acto divino, el término Kamikaze refiere justamente a eso, significa "viento divino".
Causa curiosidad que la selección argentina de beach handbol haya elegido ese apelativo para su identificación como equipo, siguiendo la tradición moderna de colocar un apodo distintivo a los seleccionados nacionales de distintas disciplinas, como Las Leonas en hockey, Los Pumas en rugby masculino y otros.
Sinceramente cuesta asociar las misiones suicidas de jóvenes en la flor de la vida con cualquier deporte incluido el handbol, pero allá ellas y su decisión.

Sin embargo, todo esto no es más que una anécdota quizás ridícula, lo importante para esta comunidad deportiva es que el equipo de "Las Kamikazes" acaba de obtener el oro en los World Games desarrollados en Chengdu, China, siendo la primera vez que el seleccionado femenino argentino de la especialidad alcanza la primera posición en estos juegos, consolidando un proceso de crecimiento que viene aconteciendo en los últimos tiempos.
La conquista del título fue nada menos que ante el campeón defensor, Alemania y se consiguió en el shoot-out por 2 a 1 tomándose revancha de la edición anterior donde las argentinas perdieron el encuentro final por 2 a 0 en los juegos disputados en la Isla Pingtan, también en China.
El camino de la selección nacional hacia el título fue perfecto, en fase de grupos venció consecutivamente a Portugal, Croacia y al local China, en la semifinal venció en el Shoot-Out a España (campeonas de Europa) y en la final a la selección defensora, Alemania.

Excelente actuación de Las Kamikazes en un deporte de escasa trascendencia en nuestro país, algo que demuestra claramente el esfuerzo y la superación personal y grupal, destacable por cierto, aunque yo no entienda el apodo que eligieron.

Honestly, it's hard to associate the suicide missions of young people in the prime of their lives with any sport, including handball, but that's their decision.
However, all this is nothing more than a perhaps ridiculous anecdote. The important thing for this sports community is that the "Las Kamikazes" team just won gold at the World Games held in Chengdu, China. This is the first time that the Argentine women's beach handball team has achieved first place in these games, consolidating a growth process that has been taking place in recent times.
The title was won by none other than the defending champion, Germany, in a 2-1 shoot-out, taking revenge for the previous edition, where the Argentines lost the final 2-0 in the games played on Pingtan Island, also in China.
The national team's path to the title was perfect: they consecutively defeated Portugal, Croatia, and the host country, China, in the group stage, defeated Spain (European champions) in the shoot-out in the semifinals, and the defending champion, Germany, in the final.
