Esta curiosa frase aunque no por ello menos cierta, se la escuché decir en varias oportunidades a los relatores y comentaristas de una de las más importantes cadenas de streaming dedicada a los deportes durante el transcurso del fabuloso programa denominado RedZone, donde trasmiten más de 7 horas en forma ininterrumpida las mejores jugadas en vivo y repeticiones de cada fecha de la NFL.
Este domingo no fue la excepción y la lanzaron al aire cuando el conjunto de los Browns de Cleveland jugaban suficientemente bien ante los Bengals de Cincinnati pero llegado el momento de la definición fallaban una y otra vez, como consecuencia mi equipo favorito se llevó una trabajada victoria por 17 a 16, debo reconocer que si no hubiera sido por los errores casi infantiles de los vecinos de Cleveland quizás otro hubiera sido el resultado. Como diría mi abuela, a este equipo, por una u otra cosa, siempre le faltan 5 para el peso, o el dólar en este caso.
Y no es el único caso que conozco, sin ir más lejos, mi equipo favorito del fútbol, Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, ha "patinado" en momentos cruciales de su vida como equipo perteneciente a la primera división del fútbol argentino. Eso le ha impedido tener algunos títulos más de la magra cosecha que posee en sus vitrinas, tampoco quiero exagerar, solo algunos pocos más.
La mejor época del club de mis amores fue durante la permanencia de Carlos Timoteo Griguol como entrenador, con el dirigiendo al equipo consiguió 3 subcampeonatos: 1995, 1996 y 1998, el más recordado por mi es el primero de ellos ya que llegó a la última fecha siendo líder por un punto y con el último partido a disputar de local, perdió frente a Independiente de Avellaneda y se coronó San Lorenzo de Almagro. Quizás debería decir Gimnasia siendo Gimnasia.

Pocos años después llegó otra buena época, cuando el entrenador principal era Pedro Troglio, con él a la cabeza, el equipo platense conquistó un nuevo subcampeonato en el torneo de la apertura 2006 y peleó casi hasta el final el torneo siguiente, pero finalizó quinto al dejar algunos puntos importantes en las últimas fechas.
En 2018, a punto estuvo de ganar la Copa Argentina con una actuación sobresaliente eliminando consecutivamente a River Plate y Boca Juniors para llegar a la final contra Rosario Central. Nuevamente falló en la última instancia y se quedó en las puertas de otro campeonato por el cual había hecho méritos suficientes.
Sé que en el ancho mundo de los deportes hay varios Browns y también varios Lobos que, pese a hacer los deberes en diversas ocasiones, se las ingenian para finalmente quedarse con las manos vacías.

¿El destino? ¿el carácter? ¿la mala suerte? no lo se con seguridad y así lo entienden la gran cantidad de aficionados y seguidores de mi equipo platense, que por otra parte tiene una excelente actividad social y deportiva en la capital de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, tanto en voleibol como en basquetbol tenemos, principalmente con las mujeres varios campeonatos nacionales y hemos aportado muchos jugadores a los seleccionados.
Veremos si en algún momento revertimos el mal momento futbolístico y dejamos de hacer las cosas que hacen los Browns.

The Browns are the Browns
This curious, but no less true, phrase was heard repeatedly by the commentators and broadcasters of one of the most important sports streaming networks during the fabulous program RedZone, where they broadcast over seven hours of uninterrupted live plays and replays from every NFL game.
This Sunday was no exception, and they aired it when the Cleveland Browns were playing well enough against the Cincinnati Bengals, but when it came to the final whistle, they failed time and again. As a result, my favorite team took a hard-fought 17-16 victory. I must admit that if it hadn't been for the almost childish mistakes of the Cleveland team, the result might have been different. As my grandmother would say, this team, for one reason or another, is always five pesos short, or a dollar in this case.
And this isn't the only case I know of. Without going any further, my favorite soccer team, Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, has "stumbled" at crucial moments in its history as a team in the Argentine first division. This has prevented it from winning a few more titles than the meager haul it has in its trophy cabinet. I don't want to exaggerate, just a few more.
The best era for my beloved club was during Carlos Timoteo Griguol's tenure as coach. Under him, the team achieved three runner-up finishes: 1995, 1996, and 1998. The most memorable for me was the first, as they led the final match by one point, and with the last game at home, they lost to Independiente de Avellaneda, and San Lorenzo de Almagro were crowned champions. Perhaps I should say Gimnasia being Gimnasia.
A few years later, another good era arrived, when the head coach was Pedro Troglio. With him at the helm, the La Plata team achieved a second place in the 2006 Apertura tournament and fought almost until the end of the following tournament, but finished fifth after dropping some important points in the final rounds.
In 2018, they came close to winning the Copa Argentina with an outstanding performance, consecutively eliminating River Plate and Boca Juniors to reach the final against Rosario Central. They failed again in the final minutes and were left on the verge of another championship for which they had sufficiently deserved it.
I know that in the wide world of sports, there are several Browns and also several Lobos who, despite doing their homework on several occasions, manage to end up coming up empty-handed.
Fate? Character? Bad luck? I don't know for sure, but that's how the many fans and followers of my La Plata team understand it. Furthermore, the team has an excellent social and sporting activity in the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires. We've won several national championships in both volleyball and basketball, especially for the women's team, and we've contributed many players to the national teams.
We'll see if, at some point, we can turn this bad patch around and stop doing the things the Browns do.
