Hello, world travelers.
I'm continuing in #Paris, but I'm making a very special stop at the home of one of the greatest writers of world literature: Honoré de Balzac.
It's a fairly large house, which in its time must have been one of the most expensive, due to its design, resembling a small castle. Long stone walls make the exterior walls look like ramparts.
You only have to see the arch at one of the entrances to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Even from the outside, the house promises wonders, but nothing compares to the interior. We are welcomed by a spacious living room with a well-maintained wooden floor and original period furniture in perfect condition.
It seems that Balzac continues to live in the house. And the paintings and statues with his image contribute to this feeling of being present.
I thought it was fabulous to see what kitchens were like back when Balzac was writing. Of course, he had to have staff to help him with those tasks. The stoves and wood-burning ovens are very uncomfortable.
And now I'm getting to the part I like most and have been looking forward to: his study.
Balzac once said, "I have carried an entire society in my head," and he demonstrated this with more than 100 titles published in his very short life (51 years). In his house-museum, you can see display cases with some of his works, all leather-bound and hardcover.
The most impressive thing is not the number of books he published, but how he did it. At that time, there were no computers, so everything had to be done manually or typed. So, when it came to revising a text, the entire page had to be rewritten. And the author of Papa Goriot wrote a lot, and I think he corrected even more (hence his mastery).
And the illustrations! If there's one thing I love about books from the past, it's that they're an art book, a luxury object in their conception. Every image in the book is an engraving; a lithograph, to be more precise. Here you can see several of the stones that are preserved with the image printed on the book page. Notice how beautiful they are.
It's no coincidence that he's one of the greatest authors in world literature, and his texts maintain great beauty and unparalleled perfection. If you want to be amazed and get off the beaten path, this is a place you have to come. It's like taking a trip back in time, to the best era of universal art.

Continúo en #París, pero hago una parada muy especial en la casa de uno de los grandes escritores de la literatura universal: Honoré de Balzac.
Es una casa bastante grande, que en su tiempo debió ser de las más caras de la época, debido a su diseño que parece un pequeño castillo. Paredes largas de piedras hace que parezcan murallas los muros exteriores.
Solo hay que ver el arco de una de las entradas para hacernos una idea de lo que les digo.

Ya desde el exterior se anuncian maravillas, pero nada comparado con el interior de la casa. Nos recibe una amplia sala con suelo de madera muy bien cuidado y un mobiliario original de la época en perfecto estado.
Tal parece que Balzac continúa viviendo la casa. Y los cuadros y estatuas con su imagen ayudan a esta sensación de tenerlo presente.
Me pareció fabuloso ver cómo eran las cocinas de aquella época en que Balzac escribía. Por supuesto de debía tener personal que lo ayudara con aquellas labores. Son fogones y hornos de madera muy incómodos.
Y ya estoy llegando a la parte que más me gusta y que esperaba con ansias: su estudio.
Balzac dijo una vez He llevado a mi cabeza toda una sociedad y eso lo demostró con sus más de 100 títulos publicados en su muy corta vida (51 años). En su casa museo se pueden ver vitrinas con algunas de sus obras, todas forradas en cuero y con tapa dura.
Lo más impresionante no es la cantidad de libros que publicó, sino el cómo lo hizo. En aquella época no había computadoras, así que todo debía hacerse de forma manual o mecanografiada. Por lo que, a la hora de revisar un texto, había que volver a escribir la página completa. Y el autor de Papá Goriot escribía muchísimo y creo que corregía más (de ahí su maestría)
¡Y las ilustraciones! Si algo me encanta de los libros de antes, es que son un libro arte, un objeto de lujo en su concepción. Cada imagen en el libro es un grabado; una litografía, para ser más preciso. Aquí se pueden observar varias de las piedras que se conservan con la imagen que imprimían en la página del libro. Observen cuánta belleza.
No por gusto es uno de los autores más grandes de la literatura universal y sus textos mantienen una gran belleza y perfección inigualable. Si quieren maravillarse y salir del circuito de turismo tradicional, este es un sitio al que tienen que venir. Es como hacer un viaje al pasado, a la mejor época del arte universal.
