Eye Oil Painting Process - Study based on the artist Anthony Van Dyck

Hi everyone, today I will share the learning process in oil painting using the old masters as reference to study upon. This reference comes from the artist Anthony Van Dyck - a Flemish Baroque artist.

With this particular piece I aimed to create soft edges the same way the artist does however, also made sure the highlights in the lower eyelid and corner of the eye were crisp. Additionally, I find it interesting the individual eye lashes were not needed and the individual hairs in the eye brows were not needed either. I find the eyes the most important part of a portrait painting which is why I dedicate the most time towards them.
