My Love-Fear Relationship with My Hair

I have a very funny relationship with my hair. I don’t know if “weird” is the right word, but yeah, let’s stick to “funny”. So, I love my hair so much and I’m obsessed with it but I’m also scared of it!😂 told ya! My hair and I are in a love-fear relationship and I find it amusing. ![image.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ibbtammy/2432N4Q8Ehb7hSccSWu5j2jJEP8rkvoNNcdo4zmsZ7WqiKiHw1rMPiuZYCfci3izTeNPo.jpeg) How do you love something so dearly but you’re afraid to tend to it? How? My intense love for my hair was born out of years of never believing I could grow my hair naturally without adding any relaxer. For someone with a low threshold of pain, that’s no easy feat. So whenever I stare at my hair, it’s a reminder of my strength and resilience. A proof that I can do just anything as long as my mind is made up. ![image.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ibbtammy/23vhunQ9V1ajL8x5YQ3v5EbLYPhV71SxuL12VAD1hAbTCAgDm4vryi4swDfaF1duAtXks.jpeg) Like we all know, an African woman’s hair is characterized as being curly, thick, dense, black, and very beautiful. Growing our hair can be pretty challenging sometimes but worth it. I cut my hair a while back and started afresh and was determined to grow my hair without relaxing it. It’s been going pretty well for me but I sure do not look forward to my hair appointment days. ![image.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ibbtammy/23ynWTboGVfRmg9Kedax3f6fvbdB86Z88qZ5WpdcFfJURbEJyNSReDgtEVXcYjBnk63pj.jpeg) I can’t comb my hair properly without wincing in pain and stopping mid-way. While most girl looks forward to making their hair, I wince at the thought of my hair being combed over and over again. Fortunately, I found someone, the only person who is able to touch my hair, comb it, wash it and braid it without me groaning in pain. This person is a little girl, she’s 13 years and she does the job so well. I look at her every day and I can’t thank God enough for bringing her my way. ![image.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ibbtammy/243qFSEgHQiQSCzKscLyAvJMhnbEdRR3iEAQ7py6VawHRfZ12vPSFs88AdwfiuCB1EqsM.jpeg) How this little girl handles my hair is shocking, how it doesn’t hurt, how it feels relaxing whenever she’s braiding my hair still blows my mind. Thinking about it now I think I’m a poor “owner”, why can’t I handle my hair myself? Why is it so difficult? Hahaha such a rhetorical question😂😂 While my little princess is helping me out for now, I pray I get the hang of this pretty soon, and I pray I face my hair head-on someday. Despite my shortcomings as a “proud hair owner” I love my hair so much and I’m obsessed with my natural twists, they’re so pretty, no extensions could replace them and they do a fantastic job with length retention. ![image.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ibbtammy/23wgS93j6RCYNgfAa842CiEr6nwFuKmnrxCEeKEj2ZSW2wDxvvKWoGZvp6KsDpgJTG1RT.jpeg) Okay, okay, sorry for using a whole 506 words to gush over my hair, my apologies, it was never my intention, but, hey there was a moral lesson in there and that is “***You can do anything in life as long as you set your mind to do it”***. What’s your hair story? Funny? Heartwarming, rosy? I’d love to read all about it in the comment section. All images are mine except otherwise stated. **Thanks for stopping by** **Loads of Love🥰🥰** **XOXO**
