What Building One's Hive [Leo] Power Means

 **Why do we power up [HIVE](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-usdhive) or [LEO](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-leo) or any other HE token?** Personally, I would say because I'm thinking long-term and want to grow my stakes to have more active income. Or the one that is often mentioned on [HivePUD](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hpud), "to have more [Resource Credits](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-resource-credits-rc) to be able to do more [transactions](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-transaction) on chain or to utilize HBD as TM puts it, to have more influence in the ecosystem, in the [governance](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-governance)." I was listening to the [Crypto Maniacs show](https://leofinance.io/@jongolson/gksyamjm) earlier and heard something that Taskmaster and Jon mentioned about why [Hive Power](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hive-power-hp) is important and I feel they are worth-highlighting, re: > *"Hive Power is important because it shows the dedication level, who is committed, who is building, who is consistent in adding to their stakes, keeping their stakes and growing their stakes and those who are the influencers and they are all out there in the open and you can see them." - [TM on the podcast](https://3speak.tv/watch?v=jongolson/gksyamjm)* And I agree with this statement. Someone who builds his HP or [Leo Power](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-leo-power) for that matter is showing that he is a player and believes in the project by putting his money where his mouth is. Like TM said, that is one value that the Hive Power holds. We can see who is serious about building. Jon added that having Hive Power **"gives everyone here on [Hive](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-what-is-hive) the ability to upvote someone and would encourage that person to keep going (because he feels valued)."** Hive Power provides one the capacity to distribute HIVE (or LEO or any HE tokens) to more people through upvoting. It is true. It's actually the most unique way of sharing (distributing) the token to other users through [curating](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-curator-hive) and you can only have that power when you have staked HIVE to upvote people's posts, [threads](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-leothreads) or comments. I'm actually amazed at how the system is set up on how the rewards pool is shared amongst users. While we grow and build our stakes and curate, we are also distributing HIVE (or any token) to others around the world. Just imagine how many people you can reach along the way through an upvote, which might not be big or life-changing, but still helps. That's another beautiful aspect of Hive that I think most of us do not really realize. Not to mention that while you are upvoting, you are also helping in the growth of the network.
