Water is an element that I am passionate about when photographing, the effects that are generated by this resource are magnificent.
Can you imagine life without water?
I want to share part of this photographic work, made for Sorelvis Castillo, a girl who contacted me on Instagram.
Sorelvis, I had no idea what she wanted, she was in her 7th month of pregnancy, she just sent me some photos of the internet, which were the ideas that I wanted to recreate, the place was already established, Isla la Cumaca in San Diego Carabobo, a place full of waterfalls, lagoons, caves and pools, which despite being all created by the hand of man, gives an appearance of naturalness.
My proposal was to take advantage of the most abundant resource of this site, water, and conceptualize it with its maximum representation ...
Life.
Water is a symbol of life, of movement, of purity, it is birth, it is fruit, the water goes beyond everything that our eyes could observe, it evokes the moment in which a being is inside the uterine bag, resembling all flow produced by this vital liquid. In these photographs I wanted to reflect that love of the unknown, what has never been seen, but that even without knowing each other, it is carried in the womb, protects and feeds for several months.
The photographs under water were the most complicated, since the weight of it did not help much to hold your breath, so there were several attempts to achieve what was committed. Prior to the day of the session, we chatted via WhatsApp, and I suggested that the photos under the water and inside the waterfall be naked, but I was not convinced, I was sorry, but once we met and confidence emerged, he agreed and a good result was generated.
To me in particular, these photos evoke the art of being a mother, of conceiving a life, that which is born out of nothingness, the product of an act, which becomes a blessing and joy for many. Lucas was the name chosen by the parents, he was already born, and his birth was aquatic, he already knew the water, so there was no problem for him, or for his mother.
Just as water gives us the hydration necessary to survive, what would we be without the person who gives us life?
