Hello, fellow travelers!
Here I am to share with you the latest adventures I had on the island of Menorca. Before returning to Milan, the last place I visited was the capital of Menorca—Mahon. I didn’t know this, but Menorca is part of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. This beautiful city is also significant because it has always had an important port throughout history, and even now it remains one of the most strategic strongholds in the Mediterranean.
I discovered that this city has a very ancient history, dating back to 2000 BC. However, you can clearly see from the buildings while visiting the city that it was heavily influenced during English rule. I visited in the late afternoon, as we had a flight early the next morning, but I have to say it’s a very fascinating place.
I regret not visiting the market, which is held every Tuesday and Saturday, where I’m sure I could have found handcrafted items and local products. Another regret is not being able to visit the beaches nearby, which I was told are incredibly beautiful.
I'm also sharing some photos I took of where we stayed, which I think is truly special. It's a place where you can have a very unique experience. I'm talking about La Jardí de Ses Bruixes Collection, which is essentially a group of accommodations that offer experiences combining culture, history, and natural wellness. The place I stayed in, also known as a boutique hotel, is located in a 19th-century house right in the center of the capital. I have to say the services they offer are excellent. I had a wonderful time, although to be honest, it was quite expensive.
Sometimes, when you visit certain places, it’s worth investing in experiences like these because you might not get the chance to do them again, even if it means sacrificing some money.
In conclusion, beyond dealing with the mourning I had to go through, I must say my Menorca experience was fantastic. I had been here many years ago, and I can say I don’t know if it was just the timing or if I was lucky, but I found a higher quality of tourism, with less of the party and excitement-driven tourism. I saw a lot of families, so in my opinion, the island is evolving toward family-oriented tourism, or perhaps that was just my impression.
