Antalya Adventures #5 - Antalya Maceraları #5

So far, I've told you about the streets, avenues, seaside, and restaurants I've explored with you in Antalya. Today, it's time to talk about the most beautiful place I've visited in Antalya: the ancient city of Side.    You know how much I love visiting museums, but I enjoy exploring ancient cities even more than museums because experiencing history outdoors is a different feeling. As I walk here, I feel as if I'm experiencing life thousands of years ago. There's no trace of the former grandeur of these structures; they're overgrown with weeds, and many parts are in ruins, yet exploring this place is more enjoyable for me than visiting a shopping mall. I said I would go there, and I did. I especially love walking along these wide streets lined with columns like these. I imagine the people shopping here while important aristocrats discuss matters nearby.  My wife took this photo right next to the columns. I wanted it as a memento. Usually, I don't have photos of myself at the historical places I visit because I travel alone. It was extremely hot, but she agreed to explore these historical sites with me anyway. She also enjoys visiting such places, but not as passionately as I do 😅  We walked through the columns and reached C Street. It was more like a small street connecting one place to another. It even had a tunnel-like atmosphere. If it had been a tunnel, it wouldn't have surprised me.   I was right; it led me to a much larger historical site: a hospital. But it was extremely hot, so we took a photo, read a bit about the hospital, and left. People were touring with a guide and exploring inside. It was a different experience; one day I'd like to get detailed information about these places with a tour guide.  Excavations are still ongoing next to the hospital. It's nice that there are still things to discover here, but the bad thing is that it seems as if this place isn't that important. It looks like anyone who wants to can enter this area right now. There are “No Entry” signs, but people don't always listen to those signs.  Look how far I've walked. I could see my wife's eyes pleading for us to turn back, but when will we be able to visit this place again? We should enjoy it.  We reached something worth all this walking. We reached a large section with the M structure, the baths, and the gymnasium complex. My shadow looks so funny in the photo. Could I have taken it from a better angle? I don't think so; there's no other frame where I could fit everything you see in the photo into the same frame without the shadow.  We started exploring this large complex covered with grass in the middle. If you visit here, I definitely don't recommend stepping into that grass. There's a statue and a big tree right in the middle of the grass, but believe me, there are so many thorns, and they prick you everywhere that you'll be shocked. The bottom of my sandals and my legs were covered in thorns. I forgot to take a photo of it. Long story short, I decided not to enter such areas anymore.  What exactly do you have to do to have a wall named after you? How successful a commander do you have to be? I've always wondered about this. The information plaque on this wall isn't clear in the photo, but I'll summarize it for you. The wall was built in the 6th century AD and was used during the Arab attacks in the 7th century. The construction of this wall caused the city to shrink.   These statues were the most impressive I've ever seen, but finding out they were replicas was disappointing. The originals are probably on display in museums. There were many more statues like these along the way.  After walking so much, it felt good to rest in the shade of this stoa. We also cleaned the thorns out of our sandals here. For those who are curious, this is the south stoa :P   This is the east stoa. According to the information board, it was designed in a U-shape, which is different from the others. It consists of the emperor's hall, the great hall, and private halls. It had impressive architecture. Especially if you look at the first photo, there is very fine craftsmanship in the marble. It amazes me every time how they were able to achieve such successful marble workmanship in that period. Do you know how much marble would have to be thrown away if they made a mistake in these?  The back of the south stoa opened out towards the sea, and my wife was happiest when she saw this spot. Because it was shaded and had a beautiful sea view. We watched the view together for a while.   Then we sat down and took a few photos. These are memories we'll look back on years from now. I might not remember the hospital or the south stoa, but I won't forget this view. No need for heroics, just walk along the path and enjoy the taste of history coursing through your veins. I think everyone should see these historical places at least once before they die. It evokes different feelings in me, and it may evoke completely different things in you. History is different for everyone, and so are feelings. Benim müzeleri gezmeyi ne kadar sevdiğimi biliyorsunuz ama müzelerden ziyade Antik kentleri gezmeyi daha çok seviyorum çünkü açık havada tarihi yaşamak farklı bir his. Burada yürüdükçe sanki binlerce yıl öncesini yaşıyormuş gibi hissediyorum. Bu yapıların eski iştihamından eser yok, her yeri otlarla kaplı ve pek çok bölümü yıkılmış olsa da burayı gezmek benim için güzel bir alışveriş merkezini gezmekten daha keyifli. Oraya gireceğimi söylemiştim ve girdim de. Özellikle, bu tarz sütunlarla çevrili geniş caddelerde dolaşmayı seviyorum. Burada halkın alışveriş yaptığını bir yandan önemli aristokratların bir şeyler tartıştığını hayal ediyorum.  Bu fotoğrafı sütunların hemen yanında eşim çekti. Bir hatıra olsun istedim. Genelde gezdiğim tarihi yerlerde kendi fotoğrafım olmuyor çünkü yalnız geziyorum. Hava aşırı sıcaktı ama buna rağmen benimle birlikte bu tarihi yerleri gezmeyi kabul etti. O da böyle yerleri gezmeyi seviyor ama benim kadar tutkulu değil 😅  Sütunların arasından yürüyerek C caddesine ulaştık. burası daha çok bir yeri diğerine bağlayan küçük bir sokak gibiydi. Hatta bir tünel havası bile vardı. Öyle olsaydı bu beni şaşırtmazdı.   Haklıydım, burası beni çok daha büyük bir tarihi alana götürdü. Bir hastaneye. Ama burası aşırı sıcaktı bu yüzden fotoğrafını çekip hastane hakkında bir şeyler okuyup ayrıldık. İnsanlar tur rehberiyle geziyordu ve içeriyi inceliyorlardı. Bu farklı bir deneyim, bir gün tur rehberiyle buralara dair detaylı bilgi almak isterim.  Hastanenin yan hala kazılar devam ediyor. Buraya dair hala keşfedilecek şeylerin olması güzel ama kötü olan şey buranın sanki o kadar önemli değilmiş gibi görünmesi. Yani isteyen herkes şu anda bu alana girebilecek gibi görünüyor. Yasaktır levhası var ama insanlar her zaman bu levhaları dinlemez.  Ne kadar yürüdüğüme bir bakın. Eşimin gözlerinde lütfen geri dönelim bakışlarını görebiliyordum ama bir daha burayı ne zaman ziyaret edebiliriz ki? Tadını çıkarmalıyız.  Bu kadar yürüdüğümüze değecek bir şeylere ulaştık. M yapısı, hamam ve Gymnasium kompleksinin olduğu büyük bir bölüme ulaştık. Fotoğrafı çekerken gölgem ne kadar komik görünüyor. Bunu daha doğru bir açıdan çekebilir miydim? Zannetmiyorum, fotoğrafta gördüğünüz her şeyi aynı kareye alabileceğim ve gölgenin olmayacağı başka bir kare yok.  Ortası otlarla kaplı bu büyük kompleksi gezmeye başladık. Burayı ziyaret ederseniz o otların arasına girmenizi kesinlikle tavsiye etmem. Otların tam ortasında bir heykel ve büyük bir ağaç var ama inanın bana o kadar çok diken var ve her yerinize batıyor ki şok olursunuz. Terliğimin altı ve bacaklarım diken kaplıydı. Onun bir fotoğrafını çekmeyi unutmuşum. Uzun lafın kısası bundan sonra böyle alanlara girmeme kararı aldım.  Bir sura isminizin verilmesi için tam olarak ne yapmanız gerekiyor? Ne kadar başarılı bir komutan olmanız gerekiyor? Bunu hep düşünmüştüm. Bu surun bilgi levhası fotoğrafta net görünmemiş ama ben size kısaca özetleyeyim. Sur milattan sonra 6. yüzyılda yapılmış ve 7. yüzyılda arap saldırılarında kullanılmış. Bu surun yapılması şehrin küçülmesine sebep olmuş.   Bu heykeller gördüğüm en etkileyici heykellerdi ama onların replika olduğunu görmek beni hayal kırıklığına uğrattı. Orijinalleri muhtemelen müzelerde sergileniyor. Yol boyunca bu tarz çok fazla heykel vardı.  Bu kadar yürüdükten sonra bu stoanın gölgesinde dinlenmek iyi geldi. Terliklerimizdeki dikenleri de burada temizledik. Meraklıları için burası güney stoa :P   Burası ise doğu stoa. Bilgi levhasında yazana göre diğerlerinden farklı bir şekilde U şeklinde tasarlanmış. İmparator salonu, büyük salon ve özel salonlardan oluşuyor. Etkileyici bir mimariye sahipti. Özellikle ilk fotoğrafa bakarsanız, mermerde çok ince işçilik var. O dönem bu kadar başarılı mermer işleme yapabilmeleri beni her seferinde şaşırtıyor. Bunlarda bir hata yapsalar ne kadar mermeri çöpe atmak gerekir biliyor musunuz?  Güney stoanın arka tarafı denize doğru çıkıyordu ve eşimin en mutlu olduğu an burayı gördüğü andı. Çünkü hem gölgeydi hem de güzel bir deniz manzarası vardı. Birlikte biraz bu manzarayı izledik.   Sonra oturup birkaç tane fotoğraf çektik. Bunlar yıllar sonra baktığımızda hatırlayacağımız anılar. Belki hastaneyi ya da güney stoayı hatırlamayacağım ama bu manzarayı unutmayacağım.   Alanın surlara doğru çıkan merdivenlerden çekilmiş fotoğrafları. Sizi tekrar uyarıyorum, sakın o otların içine doğru yürümeyin. Kahramanlığa gerek yok, yol boyunca yürüyün ve damarlarınızda gezinen tarihin tadını çıkarın. Her insanın ölmeden önce bu tarihi yerleri bir kere de olsa görmesi gerektiğini düşünüyorum. Bende farklı duygular uyandırıyor ve sizde bambaşka şeyler de uyandırabilir. Tarih her insanın açısından farklıdır ve duygular da öyle.
