Hey, it's been a while, and here I am again. I've recently become fascinated with Korean culture and films, and even though I'm not a big fan of series, I enjoy watching short ones. Today, I'll share my thoughts on Bon Appetit Your Majesty, the latest shining star in the Korean drama industry.

The series is currently available on Netflix. It consists of 12 episodes, and each episode lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes. So, we can say it lasts a total of 15 hours. The genres are comedy, drama, and fantasy. Since it tells the story of the ancient Korean kingdom, it also contains historical elements.

I didn't have high expectations when I started watching this series, and we started watching it because my wife recommended it. Unlike me, she loves watching series, especially Korean ones. So we started watching it, and the series managed to draw me in from the very first episode. The depth of the main characters is particularly well developed. Of course, like every series, this one has its exaggerations, but since the genre lends itself to this, it's well integrated. The part you're about to read contains spoilers, but I won't reveal everything about the series, so even if you read it, you can still enjoy watching the series.

The series begins with our main character competing in a cooking competition to become a Michelin-starred chef. He cooks a beautiful dish in the competition and somehow manages to beat the other chefs and win. He is very happy to have been rewarded for his years of hard work and boards a plane to return to his father. While reading a book her father asked her to read on the plane, she suddenly utters some magical words and is transported to the old Korean kingdom of Joseon, along with everything else in her bag. Of course, the woman thinks it's all a dream or a joke. She looks around for an airport, a plane, or a cell tower to make a call, but of course, her phone has no signal, and she can't call anyone. At that moment, she encounters the king hunting in the forest, and the king thinks she is some kind of witch, a *gwinyeo*, and wants to kill her. I can't believe I memorized this word correctly. Just as the king is about to kill her, an assassin shoots the king, and they both fall off a cliff. Of course, our main character Ji-Yeong doesn't believe he's the king because there's no monarchy in Korea today XD She doesn't believe him and treats him badly, but the truth comes out, and by the time she realizes he is the king, it's too late for everything. Since the king is a gourmet, he's very impressed by her cooking and somehow gets her into the royal kitchen. What follows is complete chaos.

She is exposed to throne games, the king's wife's jealousy, the king's absurd requests, and much more. She even participates in a cooking competition that concerns the future of the Joseon kingdom. Damn! You fall into an era that is not your own, and you have to adapt to that era. I can't even imagine how difficult that is, but Ji-Yeong manages to do it. Even though he repeatedly says he came from the future and wants to return, he can't escape from there, and this continues for quite some time. Frankly, I don't want to reveal what happens next; I want you to watch and find out for yourself because I don't want to spoil your curiosity.

I think the series deserves a 9 out of 10. Korea has been on a serious rise in the TV series industry lately. After Squid Game, here's another hit series, and in a completely different genre. As for the negative aspects of the series, you'll see meaningless stares, just like in Turkish series, and sometimes it's funny XD. You'll also see our king, the lead actor, doing things a king wouldn't do. Maybe a king is really like that in real life, and the king figure we see in movies or series is different, I don't know, but he's definitely a different kind of person. There aren't many gray characters in the series, which I think is bad because I like gray characters. In other words, characters that are neither devilishly evil nor angelically good are contrary to reality. We all know that in real life, people possess both good and evil within them. But despite everything, I really liked the script because, as someone who has watched a lot of movies, seeing different scripts makes me happy. It positively affects my creativity.
Thanks for reading. I'm thinking of watching another Korean drama or movie soon. I'd appreciate any recommendations in the comments. Otherwise, I'll pick something from the list my wife made for me 😂. See you in the next post.
