A tour near the sea [eng/spa]

Yesterday I had my day off from work, and I had planned to visit the Castle of San Salvador de la Punta. I like to take advantage of my time off to visit new places, so I woke up early to be at the place just at the time of its opening and to be able to take the tour with the presence of a specialized guide. Everything was going according to plan but when I arrived at the place: surprise, it was Monday! I don't know if the same thing happens in your cities, but in Havana most museums and historical places close their doors on Mondays, and then provide services during the rest of the week. I had not taken that detail into account, but I was already there, with a beautiful view of the sea, so I changed my plans and ventured to enjoy a delicious walk along that area of the Port Avenue.

> *Ayer tuve mi día libre de trabajo, y había planificado realizar una visita al Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta. Me gusta aprovechar mi tiempo de descanso conociendo lugares nuevos, así que desperté temprano para estar en el lugar justo en el momento de su apertura y poder hacer el recorrido con la presencia de un guía especializado. Todo iba marchando según lo planeado pero al llegar al lugar: sorpresa, era lunes! No sé si en sus ciudades sucede lo mismo, pero en La Habana la mayoría de los museos y lugares históricos cierran sus puertas los lunes, y luego brinda servicios durante el resto de la semana. Yo no había tenido en cuenta ese detalle, pero ya estaba ahí, con una vista preciosa del mar, así que cambié de planes y me aventuré a disfrutar de un delicioso paseo por esa zona de la Avenida del Puerto.*

The first thing I found on my way was the sculpture dedicated to the former Venezuelan president Sebastián Francisco de Miranda, which has on its side two cannons that seem to be in combat position. This figure had great historical relevance in his time and is considered the first universal Venezuelan, for his intense political work in the continent. The monument shows Miranda in an energetic position with his gaze directed towards the city of Havana, unsheathing his sword with the impetus that characterized him.

> *Lo primero que encontré en mi camino fue la escultura dedicada al expresidente venezolano Sebastián Francisco de Miranda, la cual tiene en su lateral dos cañones que parecen estar en posición de combate. Esta figura tuvo gran relevancia histórica en su época y es considerado el primer venezolano universal, por su intensa labor política en el continente. En el monumento se observa a Miranda en una posición enérgica con la mirada dirigida hacia la ciudad de La Habana, desenvainando su espada con el ímpetu que lo caracterizaba.*

A few meters away, there is a card that expresses the poem written by Bonifacio Byrne, one of the best known Cuban poets. It is called "My flag", and it is one of the most moving prose dedicated to this symbol that represents Cubans. I tell you that this area, besides having the immense Malecón on one side, offers an impressive view of the city on the other. Nearby are several hotels such as the Paseo del Prado, Iberostar Grand Packard and also the monument dedicated to General Máximo Gómez.

> *A pocos metros, se encuentra una tarjeta que expresa el poema escrito por Bonifacio Byrne, uno de los más conocidos poetas cubanos. Este se llama "Mi bandera", y es una de las prosas más emotivas dedicadas a este símbolo que representa a los cubanos. Les cuento que esa zona, además de tener el inmenso Malecón en un lado, del otro ofrece una vista impresionante de la ciudad. Muy cerca se encuentran varios hoteles como el Paseo del Prado, Iberostar Grand Packard y también el monumento dedicado al General Máximo Gómez.*

During my tour, one of the things that caught my attention was a white sculpture, which if you look closely you can see that it forms a number 7. As I am very curious, I approached to read what it said on the plaque, and I was very surprised when I noticed that it accredits Havana as one of the 7 wonders cities of the modern world. I remember with great joy when we heard the news of this recognition given by the Swiss foundation New7Wonders, in the streets there was an indescribable and unique joy. I sat for a while on one of the park benches in that area, enjoying the sea breeze and the vegetation that adorns the area.

> *En mi recorrido, entre lo que más llamó mi atención, estuvo una escultura de color blanco, que si se detalla con detenimiento se puede observar que forma un número 7. Como soy muy curiosa, me acerqué para leer lo que decía en la placa, y quedé muy sorprendida cuando noté que esta acredita La Habana como una de las 7 ciudades maravillas del mundo moderno. Recuerdo con mucha alegría cuando supimos la noticia de este reconocimiento que entrega la fundación suiza New7Wonders, en las calles se respiraba una alegría indescriptible y única. Estuve por un tiempo sentada en uno de los bancos del parque que se encuentra en esa zona, disfrutando de la brisa del mar y de la vegetación que adorna el área.*

Finally, I found another sculpture dedicated to Pierre Le Moyne D'Iberville, who constitutes the greatest hero of New France (now Quebec). This work was donated by the National Association of Quebecers, in 2019.

> *Por último, encontré otra escultura dedicada a Pierre Le Moyne D'Iberville, quien constituye el mayor héroe de Nueva Francia (actualmente Quebec). Esta obra fue donada por la Asociación Nacional de Quebequenses, en el año 2019.*

Undoubtedly, I did not stop enjoying my day off, and I even found new attractions to visit in Havana.
