Touring a house that takes you to Mexico [eng/spa]

Right on the corner where Mercaderes and Obrapía Streets meet, in Old Havana, is located the museum Benito Juárez House, who was also known as the Benemérito de las Américas (Meritorious of the Americas). This is a building dedicated to paying tribute and showing the best of Mexican culture, which was inaugurated more than 35 years ago. If you have the same question as me, Juarez never lived in this house; simply because of its fascinating characteristics and its location, it was chosen to pay this homage. In addition to the charming architecture of the building, it treasures an artistic universe to discover.

> *Justo en la esquina donde se abrazan las calles Mercaderes y Obrapía, en la Habana Vieja, se ubica el museo Casa de Benito Juárez, quien fuera conocido también como el Benemérito de las Américas. Este es un inmueble que se dedica a rendir tributo y a mostrar lo mejor de la cultura mexicana, que fue inaugurado hace más de 35 años. Si les surge la misma pregunta que a mí, pues les comento que Juárez nunca vivió en esta vivienda; simplemente por las fascinantes características de la misma y su ubicación, fue escogida para brindar este homenaje. Además de la encantadora arquitectura que posee el inmueble, atesora un universo artístico para descubrir.*

The first room of the building is currently exhibiting a very interesting exhibition called "Sueños Místicos" (Mystical Dreams), which is a project created by three Cuban artists: Víctor Mora, Karly Romero and José González. These works stand out for their vivid colours, and have the peculiarity that they are made up of three sets of the Mora Tarot that allow an interactive dynamic to be established with the visitor.

> *La primera sala de la edificación exhibe actualmente una muestra muy interesante llamada "Sueños místicos", el cual es un proyecto creado a tres manos, teniendo como autores a los artistas cubanos: Víctor Mora, Karly Romero y José González. Estas obras destacan por sus colores vivos, y tienen la peculiaridad de que está conformada por tres juegos del Tarot Mora que permiten establecer una dinámica interactiva con el visitante.*

The patio area is the most refreshing, because it is exposed to the open air, which allows you to enjoy a very pleasant temperature. There is a sculpture dedicated to the figure of Benito Juárez, which displays on its plaque a phrase of great symbolism: The law that has always been my shield and my sword. In its central area there is a fountain, which seems to be observed by the typical sculptures on its side.

> *El área del patio es la más refrescante, porque está expuesta al aire libre, lo que permite disfrutar de una temperatura muy agradable. Allí se erige una escultura dedicada a la figura de Benito Juárez, que exhibe en su tarja una frase de gran simbolismo: La ley que ha sido siempre mi escudo y mi espada. En su zona central hay una fuente, que parece observada por las esculturas típicas que se encuentran en su lateral.*

The last space of the patio has a very cosy vibe, as it is adorned with ornamental plants, like many of the houses of Cuban families.

> *El último espacio del patio tiene una vibra muy acogedora, pues está adornada con plantas ornamentales, como muchas de las viviendas de las familias cubanas.*

The house is characterised by several plaques that show the respect and love that exists between the two peoples: Mexico and Cuba. One of them is dedicated to José Alfredo Jiménez, a Mexican poet, author and performer born in Guanajuato. Another, dedicated to the Cuban people, was placed during the celebration of the XVIII Jornada cultural del estado de Campeche.

> *La casa se caracteriza por poseer varias placas que son muestra de las relaciones de respeto y amor que existe entre ambos pueblos: México y Cuba. Una de ellas está dedicada a José Alfredo Jiménez, quien fuera un poeta, autor e intérprete mexicano nacido en Guanajuato. Otra, se dedica al pueblo cubano, y fue colocada durante la celebración de XVIII Jornada cultural del estado de Campeche.*

Right at the entrance to the staircase leading to the first floor, there is a Virgin of Guadalupe, which is a Mexican religious figure of Catholic origin. Adorning this staircase is my favourite work in the whole house, which is an acrylic on canvas by the artist Juan Chawuk, called Acciones de Júbilo (Actions of Joy). This is made up of three huge panels, and calls to rescue the best values of humanity, and to denounce what doesn't add up. I love the way the artist managed to approach the subject and convey the message.

> *Justo en la entrada de la escalera que da acceso a la segunda planta, hay una virgen de Guadalupe, que es una figura religiosa mexicana de origen católico. Adornando esta escalera, se encuentra mi obra preferida de toda la casa, que es un acrílico sobre tela del artista Juan Chawuk, llamado Acciones de júbilo. Esta está compuesta por tres paneles enormes, y hace un llamado a rescatar los mejores valores de la humanidad, y a denunciar lo que no suma. Me encanta la forma en que el artista logró abordar el tema y transmitir el mensaje.*

This museum also has a conference room, a library, which contains more than seven thousand texts, and a museum classroom whose objective is the preservation of cultural and patrimonial knowledge. Without a doubt, this is an incredible place, in the middle of Havana, that shows the best of Mexican culture.

> *Este museo tiene además un sala de conferencias, una biblioteca, que contiene más de siete  mil textos; y un aula museo que tiene como objetivo, la preservación del conocimiento cultural y patrimonial. Sin dudas, este es un lugar increíble, en medio de La Habana, que muestra lo mejor de la cultura mexicana.*
