The Legend of Nyi Blorong: Guardian of Forbidden Wealth

Long ago, in the heart of Java, there lived a wise old hermit known as Ki Jagat. He was respected for his knowledge of both the physical and spiritual worlds. One full moon night, he summoned his disciple and whispered, “Tonight, I will show you a truth hidden from most—a powerful spirit named Nyi Blorong.”

Nyi Blorong was said to be a beautiful woman from the waist up, but from the waist down, she bore the glimmering scales of a giant golden serpent. She ruled the world of forbidden wealth, guarding treasure that came with dark conditions.

Together, Ki Jagat and his disciple journeyed deep into the Blorong Forest, a place feared by locals. There, under the moonlight, they prepared offerings and chanted ancient spells. Suddenly, the air grew still, and from the mist emerged Nyi Blorong—her emerald eyes glowing, her golden crown shining under the moon.

“Why have you summoned me, Ki Jagat?” her voice was soft yet echoed like a serpent’s hiss.

“I bring no greed,” Ki Jagat replied respectfully. “Only a lesson for my student—to see with his own eyes the cost of desire.”

Nyi Blorong slithered forward, her voice tempting the young disciple. “I can give you riches beyond imagination. Gold will flood your home. But each week, you must repay me... with a soul.”

The disciple trembled, horrified by the price of such wealth. He refused the offer, stepping back as Ki Jagat completed the ritual to banish her.

Before fading into the fog, Nyi Blorong smiled wickedly. “Most men cannot resist me. One day, I will return... when the desire is stronger than fear.”

The tale of Nyi Blorong still haunts the folklore of Java. To this day, people whisper her name in fear and fascination, a reminder that not all treasure is worth the price.
