A compilation by Alvaro Parra Pinto: Legends of Venezuela [ENG/ESP]

Hello everyone. As a child, when I spent vacations at my grandmother's house, there were always those moments where I would sit in a chair with my cup of coffee while listening to all the stories and legends she knows, as well as supernatural stories that passed by. I must say that to this day it is still one of the things I enjoy most with her and that's how I developed a taste for reading books with these characteristics. So, with that said, I'll tell you a little about a small book from that small collection that has been with me for years, which tells precisely these kinds of stories, in this case one of legends from Venezuela. >Hola a todos. De niña, cuando pasaba vacaciones en casa de mi abuela, siempre estaban esos momentos donde me quedaba en una silla con mi taza de café mientras escuchaba todos los cuentos y leyendas que conoce, así como historias sobrenaturales que pasaban, y debo decir que hasta la fecha sigue siendo de las cosas que más disfruto hacer con ella y así mismo desarrollé un gusto por leer libros con estas características, por lo que, dicho esto, les hablaré un poco sobre un pequeño libro de esa pequeña colección que está conmigo por años, donde justamente relata historias de este tipo, siendo en este caso uno de leyendas de Venezuela.   This is a book from the year 2002, being a compilation by Álvaro Parra Pinto, produced and under the editorial work of the same, where they make a mention of outstanding authors and their works on those well-known Venezuelan myths and some of which many do not know, so it is a work very worth highlighting, since it is an effort for that information that should prevail over that beautiful side of what is the general culture that transcends by word of mouth. >Este es un libro del año 2002, siendo una compilación del licenciado Álvaro Parra Pinto, siendo producido y bajo un trabajo de editorías por el mismo, en donde hacen una mención de autores destacados y sus trabajos sobre esos mitos venezolanos bien conocidos y algunos de los que muchos no saben, por lo que es un trabajo muy a destacar, ya que es un esfuerzo por esa información que debe prevalecer sobre ese lado bonito de lo que es la cultura general que trasciende de boca en boca.    Something worth highlighting in this one is that it not only deals with supernatural themes, but also takes into account the wide variety of Venezuelan culture and beliefs, showing us the well-known stories of the Virgin of Coromoto, the Chinita, and yet manages to touch on slightly darker themes, such as the legend of the Christ of the Coastal Highway, this being a story that tells us about an unusual figure who protects the area from ghosts. >Algo a destacar en este es que no solo trata temas sobrenaturales, sino que tiene en cuenta la gran variedad de cultura y creencia venezolana, mostrándonos los relatos conocidos de la Virgen de Coromoto, la Chinita, y aun así logra tocar temas un poco más oscuros, como el caso de la leyenda del Cristo de la carretera de la costa, siendo este un relato donde nos hablan de una figura poco común que protege la zona de espantos.     Its stories encompass a wealth of stories from various regions of the country, including the legend of Fausto de los Llanos, a reference to the myths and legends told on the plains of Barinas or Guárico. We even see a glimpse of history and heroes from a perspective of intrigue and prophecy, and it makes us imagine the legend of Urao Lagoon, where each tale reaches its resting place and awaits its eventual rise to seek a new place. In itself, it captures the attention from any angle, making it something everyone can read. >En su haber de historias logra tener un cúmulo de varias zonas del país, incluso la leyenda del Fausto de los Llanos, siendo una referencia a esos mitos y leyendas que cuentan en las llanuras de Barinas o Guárico. Incluso vemos algo de historia y próceres desde un punto de vista de intriga y profecía y nos hace imaginar de manera fantasiosa con la leyenda de la laguna de Urao, donde cada cuento llegó a su sitio de descanso y espera que en algún momento se eleve para buscar un nuevo lugar. En sí, logra captar la atención desde cualquier punto que se busque, siendo algo que todos pueden leer.    Graphically, it's a gem; it ranges from photographs to art in the form of abstract paintings that seek to convey a vision of what is being told, and, in terms of photos, to truly demonstrate each word spoken. It's organized to be a back-and-forth of color and black and white, giving us the impression that this is a bygone era we're exploring through a different, unconventional perspective. >A nivel gráfico es toda una joya; tiene desde fotos hasta arte en forma de cuadros abstractos que buscan dar una visión de lo que se cuenta y, en cuanto a fotos, dar una verdadera prueba de cada palabra que se dice. Está organizado para que sea todo un ir y vuelta de colores y blanco y negro, dándonos a entender que se trata de una época pasada de la cual estamos explorando a través de otra visión no convencional para la actualidad.     Among all of these, my favorite and the one that made this book always be in my mind is the prophecy of Saturnino, by the great Aristides Rojas, where he tells us a short story about a homeless man who would have prophesied the well-known Santa Úrsula earthquake that occurred in Caracas on October 21, 1766. Through a form of writing that is very reminiscent of those stories that used to be narrated at night through the radio, it delves into how Saturnino, through a characteristic and catchy song, alerted everyone of what would happen and, when he was ignored, he decided to spend the night at the foot of a hill until the imminent happened... >Entre todas estas, mi favorita y la que hizo que este libro siempre esté en mi mente es la profecía de Saturnino, por el gran Aristides Rojas, donde nos relata una pequeña historia sobre un indigente que habría profetizado el conocido terremoto de Santa Úrsula ocurrido en Caracas el 21 de octubre del año de 1766. A través de una forma de escritura que recuerda mucho a esos relatos que solían narrar en las noches a través de la radio, nos adentra en cómo Saturnino, a través de un canto característico y pegajoso, alertó a todos de lo que pasaría y, al ser ignorado, este decidió pasar la noche al pie de una colina hasta que ocurrió lo inminente...    --- The story's story is precisely what always makes me come back to this book, because, as I said before, it's varied for every taste, and each person can possibly be hooked on it in a different way. So yes, this is another recommendation that is undoubtedly very valuable for lovers of well-known legends or myths. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy it, and thank you very much for reading. >El canto de esta historia es justamente lo que siempre me hace volver a ver este libro, ya que, como dije antes, es variada para cada gusto y posiblemente cada persona puede quedar enganchada a este de manera distinta. Así que sí, esta es otra recomendación que sin duda es muy valiosa para los amantes de las leyendas o mitos conocidos, por lo que sin más espero sea de su agrado y muchísimas gracias por leer.
