The Day the Books Disappeared is an interesting and creative read which immediately draws the readers attention with its unusual premise. A basic yet hair raising what if question is raised in the name of the book what would be the fate in case one day the books in the world simply disappeared This is not only an ideal of imagination, but it is a reflection on our reliance on narrations, facts and written text. The author creates a world in which the unexpected loss of the books creates the feeling of shock waves at all levels of the society. Schools do not have their text books, libraries become ghost towns and even bookshops become ghost towns. What makes the story beautiful is not only the event itself but how the reaction of people is analyzed. Certain characters are in panic and realize that they have missed their learning and imagining sources. The others pretend to be strangely indifferent as though the digital screens have already diminished the smell and touch of paper. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmUfMS77tvApsesbP4aGNE9Gt7nECBCvz2hcNd2mdB22N9/1754755118581.jpg) [Pixabay](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSfm0IjcsKrnl_T2m4buefFtxIfMOTQvHrCmZhkD-zm2gyKMRtDw7QpbdBxbcVVCzGKsuU&usqp=CAU) Of note is the emotional center of the story. The author does not consider books as complete object but as a vital carrier of memory, culture, and identity. It also has very poignant moments, as older characters lament the loss of beloved novels as though they were old friends. Younger characters, however, begin to understand that books are the only method of ensuring that their knowledge of history, science, and art is firm and stable. The narrative flows with no abruptness and it is why one is able to drift into the unraveling of the mystery as well as the emotional burden of the situation at hand. The visual depiction is that of dusty bare shelves, classrooms that are confusing, and families having troubles recounting bedtime stories without written words to be used. This apt belief that the books are more than learning tools was my favorite. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmYcagqyvVMjMEWBR4WkPowHWw5C1YqoFH94DkKhAgHTnB/1754755342216.png) [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/vectors/boy-child-youth-book-read-2143342/) There is thinly veiled message of the books being the repositories of human thought, the generators of generations and the vessels that incite imagination. The book teaches the reader to appreciate the things they have before it is too late and the knowledge they have before it is unlikely to come back to them again. The Day the Books Disappeared is more than a tonguein cheek fiction; it is more of a sleeper message. It has the effect of causing you to close the last page or in this ironic instance one to switch off the screen with a new understanding of the worth of the print. Picture of myself
