BELGIAN LIEGE WAFFLES
Ingredients
350g All-purpose flour 1/2 cup warm milk (add more or less depends on flour type) 1 teaspoon yeast 1 tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 90g unsalted butter, softened 120g Pearl sugar
Instructions
- In a measuring cup, in warm milk, dissolve the yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar and let sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Place the flour, egg, vanilla extract, salt, and milk mixture in the mixer bowl and knead at a slow speed.
- Cut the softened butter into small pieces and gradually incorporate it into the dough while kneading. Mix until a smooth, elastic dough is formed.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and set aside for 1 hour to rise.
- Once the dough has risen, add the pearl sugar and knead it in by hand until it's evenly distributed.
- Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat.
- Divide the dough into 8-10 equal portions and form them into balls.
- Place 2 balls onto the waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy.
- Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve it with your favorite toppings like whipped cream, fresh fruit, or chocolate sauce. Enjoy!
