Fontevraud is the royal necropolis of the Plantagenets, a legendary dynasty in the history of both England and France. Several major historical figures are buried here, and we’ve come to pay our respects—most notably to the famous Eleanor of Aquitaine, a powerful woman, patron of the arts, and key figure of the Middle Ages.
The site is striking in its scale and solemn atmosphere. Its architecture, both austere and majestic, commands respect and invites reflection.
After exploring the abbey church and the effigies, we continue our visit through the cloister and its garden—the true heart of monastic life. Quiet, greenery, and harmony: a peaceful moment that does us a world of good.

Fontevraud est la nécropole royale des Plantagenêts, une lignée emblématique de l’histoire d’Angleterre et de France. C’est ici que reposent plusieurs figures majeures, auxquelles nous venons rendre hommage… notamment la célèbre Aliénor d’Aquitaine, femme de pouvoir, mécène des arts et personnage incontournable du Moyen Âge.
Le lieu impressionne par sa grandeur et son atmosphère solennelle. L’architecture, à la fois sobre et majestueuse, impose le respect et invite à la contemplation.
Après avoir parcouru l’abbatiale et les gisants, nous poursuivons la visite par le cloître et son jardin, véritables cœurs battants de la vie monastique. Calme, verdure et harmonie : un moment de paix qui nous fait le plus grand bien.
