A la tienda Velarte llegué en busca de luz, allí vendo mis velas, pero fui en busca de otras más grandes y también quería inciensos para aromatizar mi casa. Es un emprendimiento familiar, más bien de parte de mi familia: hermano y cuñada.
Las riendas de Velarte las lleva Yusleydis Vázquez, mi cuñada que es muy tímida, sin embargo, tiene mucha gracia y paciencia para sugerir y explicar cada detalle de objetos decorativos, plantas, velas, inciensos y todo lo que allí se ofrece.
Es muy agradable llegar hasta ese pequeño sitio, no saber qué elegir porque todo es agradable y útil. Sentí esa sensación de estar donde quería. Para mí, Velarte es un emprendimiento hermoso y trabajar en un lugar de buenas vibras inspira buenas emociones.
Nunca estás en su espacio físico, desde fuera te sumerges en él y el ritmo cambia. Olvidas el mundo exterior y te envuelve una calma increíble. Ir de compras aquí es un pequeño lujo que me regalo. Claro, siempre salgo con algo de regalo.
Lo primero que te atrapa es el olor. Es que huele delicioso esa mezcla de inciensos y esencias. Es un olor suave a vainilla, canela, lavanda, sándalo, cítricos. Elegir un aroma es como elegir el ambiente que quiero para mi casa. El de lavanda es perfecto para relajarme o el de cítrico ahuyentaría los insectos. Es hacer que mi casa huela a hogar, a paz.
Y luego me encantan las velas; no son todas iguales, hay diversos tamaños y colores. Se nota que están hechas con mucho amor, tienen su propio carácter. La cera es suave al tacto y hasta me gusta ver esas pequeñas imperfecciones que demuestran que alguien la hizo con cuidado. Lo mismo con las figuritas de cerámica; agarrarlas y notar su peso y su textura me hace sentir que estoy llevándome algo único, algo con alma.
Comprar en estos pequeños emprendimientos es apoyar a una persona que lucha por avanzar. Comprar en Velarte un objeto para regalar o para el hogar, tiene un valor especial.
Y por último, está lo bonito que es todo. Me paso un rato mirando las estanterías, con sus colores y sus formas tan diversas y descubro estas miniaturas de mecheros o kinke como le llamamos aquí. Pero no digo nada porque terminaré llevándome media tienda.
Pero hay un refrán que dice que cuando la hierba está para uno, no hay vaca que se la coma y mi hermana compró dos mecheros y uno es para mi.
Así que, al final, comprar en Velarte es mucho más que comprar una vela o un adorno. Es calmarme, rodearme de cosas bonitas y con sentido, y apoyar el trabajo de alguien que quiero. Es llevarme a casa un pedacito de esa paz que se respira en el local, y hacer que mi día a día sea un poco más especial.

Entrepreneurship with Light and Scents

I went to the Velarte store looking for light; I sell my candles there, but I went in search of other, larger ones and also wanted some incense to scent my home. It's a family business, more specifically from part of my family: my brother and sister-in-law.
The reins of Velarte are held by Yusleydis Vázquez, my sister-in-law who is very shy yet has a lot of grace and patience for suggesting and explaining every detail of the decorative objects, plants, candles, incense, and everything else offered there.
It's very pleasant to visit that little place, not knowing what to choose because everything is nice and useful. I felt that sensation of being exactly where I wanted to be. For me, Velarte is a beautiful small business, and working in a place with good vibes inspires good emotions.
You are never in their physical space without immersing yourself in it, and the rhythm changes. You forget the outside world and an incredible calm envelops you. Shopping here is a small luxury I give myself. Of course, I always leave with a little gift.
The first thing that captures you is the smell. The mix of incense and scents smells delicious. It's not a strong, artificial odor, but rather vanilla, cinnamon, lavender, sandalwood, citrus. For me, choosing a scent is like choosing the atmosphere I want for my home. The lavender one would be perfect for relaxing, or the citrus one would keep insects away. It's about making my home smell like a home, like peace.
And then I love the candles; they are not all the same, there are various sizes and colors. You can tell they are made with a lot of love; they have their own character. The wax is soft to the touch, and I even like seeing those little imperfections that show someone made it carefully. The same with the little ceramic figures; picking them up and noticing their weight and texture makes me feel like I'm taking away something unique, something with a soul.
Buying from these small businesses is supporting a person who is fighting to get ahead. Buying an object from Velarte as a gift or for the home has a special value.
And finally, there's how beautiful everything is. I spend a while looking at the shelves, with their diverse colors and shapes, and I discover these miniature kerosene lamps or kinke as we call them here. But I don't say anything because I'll end up taking half the store as gifts.
But there's a saying that goes when the grass is meant for you, no cow will eat it, and my sister bought two lamps and one is for me.
So, in the end, buying at Velarte is much more than just buying a candle or an ornament. For me, it's about calming down, surrounding myself with beautiful and meaningful things, and supporting the work of someone I care about. It's about taking home a little piece of that peace you breathe in the shop, and making my everyday life a little more special.
