Pepe Bañobre is recreating this entire world of theater in a Café-Bar project. There, in front of the beautiful Las Antillas fountain, stands this space for friends of the theater. I will gladly show you some images.

Under the direction of Ivo Dovale, and performed by Bañobre and Rafael Arguelles, it was the first work in the region to fully employ blacklight theater technique. This innovation gave birth to the Grupo Teatral Luz Negra in 1994, a group that would later earn the prestigious Premio Villanueva. Here, Bañobre’s artistry merged with technological innovation, proving that his mastery extended to the very possibilities of the stage.
Yet, his most profound metamorphosis was into the character that would define him: the charismatic Tío Pepe. More than a children's entertainer, Tío Pepe was a sophisticated clown, a figure born from the deep codes of the clown tradition with an aesthetic that spoke to both children and adults. With his sparkling histrionics and an opening bit involving a telephone, he opened the curtains of imagination with music, magic, and puppets, becoming a living part of Cuban folklore. He understood the clown's work with profound seriousness: a vessel to navigate existential challenges, traveling from sadness to joy on the tightrope of optimism.

Vengo a esta joven comunidad amante del teatro, con el placer de mostrarle un detalle, una vida. Hay personas que se identifican por sus pasiones, así es Pepe Bañobre, hombre de teatro. Y quiero hablarles de este actor porque hoy es su cumpleaños.
Hablar de José "Pepe" Bañobre es hablar del amor por la tierra, la devoción por las tablas y una rara maestría para la transformación. Nacido en Las Tunas en 1959, su trayectoria artística comenzó no en grandes academias, sino en el fértil terreno del teatro aficionado, donde su talento ya era reconocido en festivales de Santiago de Cuba. Esta fue la base de un hombre que se convertiría en un pilar del teatro cubano, un actor cuya carrera es una lección de evolución artística y profunda conexión con sus raíces.
