Since childhood, Miguel was very perceptive and had a great ability to learn on the fly. He used to accompany his father in his masonry work and that is how he learned the trade. In addition, his ease with calculations, essential in the construction business, paved the way for him to advance... By the time he reached adolescence, Miguel was already a full-fledged mason, able to undertake large and difficult projects without anyone's help. He had a quality that everyone valued: Miguel liked to be careful with details, took great care to ensure that his work was well finished, and loved to receive recognition from his clients. For many years, our friend was able to live comfortably from his masonry work, but between migration and the decline in the population's purchasing power, the demand for this service gradually decreased. This was a big problem for him because, regardless of whether or not he got hired for masonry jobs, he still had to cover the costs of supporting a large family, all of whose children were still in school. To weather the storm, Miguel started doing whatever he could, venturing into gardening and hauling debris in agreement with some men who have trucks for that purpose. He does not shy away from risky jobs such as climbing tall trees to harvest avocados or papayas, and during mango season, he distributes them from house to house. His motto is that anything that is legal is valid, as long as there is food on the table for his children and wife every single day. And so it has been. One day, more out of necessity than curiosity, Miguel began repairing his and his family's shoes. He bought the basic supplies, such as sewing nylon and curved needles, and made or adapted other instruments from the tools he had at home. With this experience sewing shoes in a family setting, word began to spread among his acquaintances and friends. He soon realized that the demand for shoe repairs was much, much greater than that of his former construction job. Since he had to continue doing occasional masonry work, he spoke clearly with his customers about shoe repair. If the request was urgent, he did not accept it, thus avoiding letting people down. Another quality that we, his customers, appreciate is his sincerity. As time has passed, Miguel has realized that he has a brighter future in the shoe repair business, so he is focusing on trying to expand it. He wants to leave the space he has in his living room to move to a more comfortable and better-located premises, where potential customers can also request his careful repairs. He is currently working with public and private sector organizations to see if he can get the support he needs to set up a small workshop where, in addition to sewing, he can offer other shoe repair services. I always love sharing these kinds of stories with you, about people who, instead of resting on their laurels, set out to overcome each difficulty one by one. Thank you for your time.
