Les comento…
Lo primero a decir es que el contenido del artículo me ha resultado iluminador, recuerdo que hace muchos años mi suegro, que era un gran comedor de dulces, hablaba de la muerte blanca para referirse al azúcar.
Escucharlo hablar en ese tono siempre me resultaba paradójico porque aún sabiendo él las consecuencias de un consumo exagerado de azúcar no podía sobreponerse al deseo de consumir productos donde estuviera presente esta sustancia tan adictiva para todos.
Muchas veces hacemos lo que no conviene, tenemos la información y sin embargo no la tomamos en cuenta. Pareciera que hay algo en nuestra naturaleza humana que nos hace minimizar la importancia, es como si no le creemos a la ciencia, o como si pensáramos que a nosotros ese tipo de problemas no nos va a llegar. De algún modo creemos que estamos fuera de las estadísticas.

En mi caso trato de poner de mi parte. Con relación al azúcar en realidad la consumo poco. Quizá tenga esto que ver con mis crónicos problemas digestivos. Desde joven he tenido que tomar precauciones con ciertos alimentos, entre ellos los dulces procesados que contienen gran cantidad de azúcar. Esos dulces casi siempre me caen mal.
Ahora que me estoy poniendo mayor he tenido que prestarle más atención al asunto y en la actualidad he descartado casi totalmente el consumo de dulces. Pienso que eso debe sumar saldos positivos en el tema de la salud.
Sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo otros factores distintos al consumo de azúcar van atentando contra mis posibilidades de descanso. Ahora me paro más veces durante la noche para ir al baño y eso produce interrupciones en el sueño. En compensación me levanto más tarde de lo normal. Debido a eso procuro no contraer ningún compromiso en las primeras horas de la mañana, pararme antes de las nueve a.m. es difícil para mí. Cuando lo hago paso el resto del día sintiéndome fatigado.
A la sensación de cansancio la he ido conociendo y me he dado cuenta que hay algunas actividades que la minimizan. Una de ellas es moverme.
Pareciera paradójico y cualquiera pudiera decir: pero cómo me voy a mover si me siento cansado. Es verdad, cuando nos sentimos cansados los que nos provoca es estar echados. Eso es lo que a mí también me provoca.
Pero si logro sobreponerme y me voy a dar una pequeño recorrido por el vecindario logró que la energía se reactive. En verdad es algo muy peculiar, cada vez que me siento atacado por el agotamiento, trato de dar una vuelta de unos quince a veinte minutos. Al regresar en vez de sentirme más cansado me siento con más animo. Lo siento como una forma de retar al cuerpo, él quiere estar quieto pero yo le ordeno que se mueva. En verdad que eso me surte efecto.

También me he dado cuenta que una forma de potenciar el descanso es manteniendo a rayas los pensamientos negativos y las preocupaciones. Vivimos en un tiempo y en unas condiciones que pueden llegar a producir mucho estrés, no es fácil estar tranquilo si se va la luz a cada momento o no se consigue a tiempo un cilindro de gas, esto sin contar el tema de la posible llegada de los marines…
Todos esos asuntos son suficientes para inquietar la mente más serena, pero aún así hay que hacer el esfuerzo por salirse de ese círculo de pensamientos negativos. En mi caso trato de entretener la mente con lecturas, sesiones de meditación y escribiendo mis notas para HIVE. La verdad es que últimamente escribir estas notas está cumpliendo una función muy terapéutica.
Este tema del descanso necesario es demasiado importante como para descuidarlo, los invito a que le presten atención. Agradezco al amigo Emilio por dejarnos tan interesante tema para la reflexión.

Let me share… The first thing to say is that I found the article enlightening. I remember that many years ago, my father-in-law, who had a huge sweet tooth, used to refer to sugar as "white death." Hearing him speak like that always struck me as paradoxical because, even knowing the consequences of excessive sugar consumption, he couldn't overcome his desire to eat products containing this addictive substance. We often do the wrong thing; we have the information, yet we ignore it. It seems there's something in our human nature that makes us downplay its importance. It's as if we don't believe science, or as if we think these kinds of problems won't affect us. Somehow, we believe we're outside the statistics. In my case, I try to do my part. Regarding sugar, I actually consume very little. Perhaps this has something to do with my chronic digestive problems. Since I was young, I've had to be careful with certain foods, including processed sweets that contain a lot of sugar. Those sweets almost always make me feel unwell.  Now that I'm getting older, I've had to pay more attention to the matter, and I've almost completely eliminated sweets from my diet. I think that must be beneficial for my health. However, as time goes on, other factors besides sugar consumption are affecting my ability to rest. Now I get up more often during the night to go to the bathroom, and that interrupts my sleep. As compensation, I get up later than usual. Because of this, I try not to make any commitments in the early morning; getting up before 9:00 a.m. is difficult for me. When I do, I spend the rest of the day feeling fatigued. I've gotten to know the feeling of tiredness and I've realized that there are some activities that minimize it. One of them is moving around. It might seem paradoxical, and anyone could say: but how can I move if I feel tired? It's true, when we feel tired, what we want to do is lie down. That's what I feel too. But if I manage to overcome it and go for a short walk around the neighborhood, I manage to reactivate my energy. It's really something peculiar; whenever I feel attacked by exhaustion, I try to take a walk of about fifteen to twenty minutes. When I get back, instead of feeling more tired, I feel more energetic. I feel like it's a way of challenging my body; it wants to stay still, but I order it to move. It really does work for me. I've also realized that one way to enhance rest is by keeping negative thoughts and worries at bay. We live in a time and under conditions that can be very stressful; it's not easy to stay calm when the power goes out every minute or you can't get a gas cylinder in time, not to mention the possibility of the marines arriving…  All these issues are enough to unsettle even the most serene mind, but we must still make the effort to break free from that cycle of negative thoughts. In my case, I try to occupy my mind with reading, meditation sessions, and writing my notes for HIVE. The truth is, lately, writing these notes has been very therapeutic. This topic of necessary rest is too important to neglect; I encourage you to pay attention to it. I thank my friend Emilio for sharing such an interesting topic for reflection.
