Greetings, friends!
I hope everyone had a good start to their week!
You may remember my previous post where I've shared an experiment I had with my style, featuring a poison vial. I mentioned there that I hade a couple more potion bottle sketches. I worked on those sketches and turned them into a set of three! Here they are;
I'm pretty happy with them, though not perfect nor how I imagined they would be but still the result surprised me. Especially, the purple one had me fight with it quite a lot.
Here they are one by one;
The Poison
The Ignition
The Enchantment
~ Progress ~
I've already shared the progress of the first potion, but still for the sake of the set, I'm sharing a collection of screenshots yet again.
The second potion was pretty direct and boring to be honest. I didn't know how to enrich it, so I added some effect to the potion, like flames in the liquid. I toned them down so they wouldn't glare too much but now that I look at it, maybe I should have left them sharp and bright instead. It's a fire potion after all.
And the third one... This was the hardest for sure. I had plans on how to proceed with this one and all of them failed! Nothing worked like I had in my mind! I was about to give up (and go cook dinner) then I started laying out simple shapes with lasso tool and throwing gradient shadows on it (the 4th shot) and suddenly things started working. This shadow here and that shine there, I ended up with my favorite of the bunch (and a simple salad for the dinner because I got caught up in working once the gears started ticking, hahaha)
This project sure was challenging and educating! As much as I love painting fanart portraits and chibis, I discovered I enjoyed drawing props too! Maybe this will be helpful on my job search, maybe not. But I sure am happy that I attempted this, and I do plan on making more!
