One of the reasons I travel far from home is to find something interesting, not just good food or entertainment, but something deeper and can be explored further. Many people like traveling just to blend in with local residents because of the different cultures and traditions, that's one of the things I like too. However, there is something that really interests me, namely the history of the city I explore.
One of my wish lists when I was a teenager was to be able to go to the city of Yogyakarta. Why Yogyakarta? Because they are one of the cities that I think has the appeal of its culture and traditions. Also, temples and history that have captivated me since long ago. They also have a kingdom that still exists today. that's what makes me interested.
However, who would have thought that the city has something more interesting. In the form of its history which is still very thick and influential in people's lives today? that's the mystery. This city is truly very rich in culture, Javanese culture that they still hold very firmly. In fact, they have one of the places to store many important historical relics and it is made into a very famous museum and is located in the center of Yogyakarta, the Sonobudoyo Museum.
In this museum I found something that caught my attention. In the form of historical relics from thousands of years ago, they still exist and are exhibited here. Of course, the limits of the city of Yogyakarta. Interestingly, from 3000 years ago, there are still relics here. In the form of many statues displayed in one case covered with thick glass.
From my expedition at the Sonobudoyo museum, it turns out that the fact of the influence of Hinduism and Buddhism in Yogyakarta is very close. Many objects are collected and exhibited, some from the 5th to 16th centuries. Where at that time Hinduism and Buddhism filled the civilization of Javanese human life in the past. It can be said, one of the relics of the temples and inscriptions in that century. Such as the relics of the Borobudur temple, Prambanan temple and many other temples in the Yogyakarta area to Central Java.
Not only from the inscriptions and statues that are exhibited, there are even Prasen (referred to as a cup used for religious ceremonies), Darpana (a mirror used by women in the 5th century), dinner plates, weapons and also hunting tools. Everything is presented completely in the Sonobudoyo Museum and complete with its guide.
Interestingly, it is not only about the influence of Hinduism and Buddhism, but also the history of the entry of Islam in Yogyakarta. Everything is complete with various artifacts collected in one museum that is large enough to make my feet tired at that time and walk for 3 hours.
Here there are also puppets displayed based on their type. Learn a lot from here, it turns out that there is not only one type of puppet that is famous such as Wayang Kulit, but there are also Gedhog puppets from Surakarta, Wayang Sadat, Wayang Wahyu and Wayang Kancil. All are displayed very neatly and also complete with various examples.
This museum is full of stories in every corner. For those who tend to like historical relics, they will really like the stories in the Sonobudoyo Museum.
