I just realize why I've always loved Japanese restaurants. Of all the restaurants, I always come back for more and another time. The simple reason, the taste of the food leave a lasting impression on my tongue, and I miss it uncontrollably. Do you know what longing feels like?
Not almost every day, but I think if I ate at a Japanese restaurant every day, will be broke. So, at least once a month, I find myself seek out a Japanese restaurant, even if it's just for yakiniku. I guess everyone have their favorite things about food.
Hibiki is a Japanese restaurant with two outlets in this town, both with different concepts but essentially the same. The difference is, the one I ate at this time have more of a lunchtime meal, so it focused on rice and easy to serve side dishes.
This time, I ordered a Japanese bowl with two menus: beef yakiniku rice and menya gyutandon. Both were main dishes for lunch, plus two other dishes as side dishes. Are you curious what I ordered? Of course, I ordered chicken karage as an appetizer and finished with matcha soft serve ice cream.
The Japanese bowl was incredibly flavorful and complete. Protein, carbs, fat, and fiber all in one bite. That is the concept of a rice bowl, so you're already pretty full without order an appetizer or dessert. But this lunch, I really wanted to enjoy a complete Japanese meal.
And what made me love this particular outlet so much was the matcha soft serve ice cream, which I don't find anywhere else. This is a smooth matcha soft serve ice cream with a very delicious matcha flavor. It's not sweet, perhaps more bitter than others, and they use good matcha powder. It's slightly nutty and complex. It's always available at this outlet, but it's limited. As an ice cream lover, I think you'll love it.
The place is quite cozy, but for lunch, it super crowded, and almost all the seats taken. In fact, we were the last customers to get a seat for lunch, which was a lucky day.
The entire meal was delicious and enjoyable. But not when paying, LOL.
