Some Advice to my Fifteen-Year-Old Me - Weekend-Engagement #259

If you could go back in time to when you were fifteen years old, what warning and what advice would you give yourself and why?

Hello, people! Having a wonderful weekend so far? I hope so 🙂.

I really liked this prompt because I'm dealing with kids of this age and I would really love that someone would tell me about how confusing being a fifteen-year-old teenager was.

Every day I had to listen to a lot of things from my students; their problems at home, their lack of attention from their parents, their lack of love and someone who really pays attention to their feelings and emotions.

Being in this job had made me to give a look back to my past, and to analyze everything through a new perspective.

If I had to go back in time and give some warning and advice to my fifteen-year-old me, those would be: Do not trust in pretty girls that claim to be your best friend, speak up, and learn to see people thoroughly. Not all of them are bad, but they're not good either. Wait till you get into college and then, you'll see that everything will be better.

My Bestie.

Why would I dare to give these words to myself? Experiences like those I lived during my teenage era were the ones that made me, that gave me the wisdom to now know how to speak to my students. But deep down, I would have liked to just be me. Standing up for my thoughts and allowing myself to live what I really wanted at that moment. Not caring about what my so-called-friends would think of me.

So-Called-Friends from high school. We don't talk anymore. I found this photo on my Facebook account.

And that is why I would tell those things to her. I would like that she had no fear, that she could see the people carefully to know that they might actually not be who they say they are, and that they only wear masks to cover up the great liars they are. To allow herself to live that love story, to be friend with whomever she wants, to do her things without feeling ashamed.

Those things are what I try to tell my students. I try to guide them the best I can, and to learn about them. This might not be the same era, but I know most of their feelings are those I felt when I was younger. So, I hope they can learn a little from me.

Thanks for reading.
