The present times we are in is filled with distractions from every sides. Which makes is nearly impossible to avoid. Starting with our thoughts which can take us round the world spontaneously, in the home front, the kids with their loud noises or that of the television they're watching.
The neighborhood where we live in has its own quota, loud music or noisy generator sound. The phone which we use which also is our second office for those majorly involved in online hustles, you switch it on to work, the next thing that pops up on the screen is random web ads or calls which easily shifts one's attention.
What about the social media?…That one is the chief of it all, with trending news, celebrity gossip, politics, numerous short comedy videos that play randomly without clicking on it and all what not. Which if not checked, one can spend the whole day consuming them thereby wasting a lot of time.
The truth is, it is nearly impossible to avoid these distractions these days especially with the presence of modern day technology. A popular quote states that ( author unknown) ***“if you don't know the direction to sail, no wind will take you there”.*** Irrespective of these distractions, setting our priorities right can make the difference. First off, you have to know what you want, your “Why”, your Dream, and setting goals, putting in workable plans on how to achieve them.
On my part, in fighting distractions I set weekly goals, these goals are the vehicle that drives me towards achieving my yearly goals. Before going to bed I usually have a to -do- llst for the next day which must align with my weekly goals. The volume of my list determines the attention I pay to other things outside it. During school periods I ensure that 90% of my tasks for the day is achieved before the close of school to avoid carrying over tasks because family is also part of the daily tasks to strike a balance between work and family.
When distraction sets in unconsciously, my subconscious mind will always ask me “is this part of your plan for the day?” Quickly I'll catch myself back. As much as possible I try to use social media as my break period to ease of stress, after all they said that “all work and no play makes Jack a doll boy”, lol, and to keep abreast of times.
I intentionally plan my weekends for rest, reflection on activities over the week, call or visit to extended family members, friends and other social activities. My every activity has allotted time to it. I noticed that without intentional approach to every task some may be left unattended to which in return may lead to unfinished tasks and unachieved goals.
In conclusion, distractions are within and all around us. Which one cannot live in isolation from, but can maintain focus in things that truly matter if proper plans and intentional approach is put in place towards achieving them. Hence, the importance of setting goals.
***Thanks abundantly for stopping by, I truly and deeply appreciate it. See you again in my next post. Do have a blessed and great mid week.***🙏🙌🤗💚💪✨
