Hello everyone on Hive and QC family. How are y'all doing? I trust it's cool. I'm excited to participate in this week's prompt as stated below: > ***Relationships*** - When we agree to be in a romantic relationship with someone: Does that person own us? Do we own that person? Why do you think some people believe their partner belongs to them or that they own them? Would you be in a relationship with someone who thinks they own you? Why? ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmSa6S3GoNLKvxN6w8KfQgBSy2CFTVK8vNtF3fzB6nbu7E/1759262111273.jpg) [Source](https://pixabay.com/photos/love-pair-two-love-story-lovers-3187623/) People enter into relationships for different reasons. Some expressly define terms of the relationship while some do not. Being in a romantic relationship entails a lot of sacrifices and commitment . In every relationship the primary reason should be for mutual benefits. Being in a relationship with someone should make us better. Being in a romantic relationship requires mutual respect. Owning someone means one partner being in charge of the other's life. You control them in every way, choosing their friends, what they wear, where they go, their career path and all what not because you are their “property”. It means one partner having total control of the other in the name of “love”. That's bondage in disguise. Relationships are sweet when everyone is given a free hand to explore life, that's freedom and that's what relationships should be. However, it's not a prerogative to take each other for granted. You assist each other in any way possible within your capability. You give advice when and if needed, not by compulsion because you own your life and I own mine. Being in a romantic relationship doesn't mean my partner owns me nor does it mean I own my partner, rather we help each other to achieve our dreams and aspirations. There should be freedom of choice and association void of pretense for us to explore our full potentials. Any relationship where one partner believes the other belongs to them is centered on ***insecurity*** and ***selfishness***. They feel threatened by your level of growth because of insecurity, with the thought of fear of losing their “respect” seeing that you're aiming higher than they feel they are. Hence, using unnecessary control to deprive you peace of mind and pull you down because an unstable mind cannot concentrate and think straight. When in a relationship, I like being free. To express myself in every way without the fear of being misunderstood. Do the things I like doing, associate with whoever I deem fit. Chase my dreams without my partner feeling threatened by my ambition, rather push me to do more. Someone who values me in every way, my time, opinion and decisions. On the other hand, I reciprocate by not taking it for granted, giving back the same energy. You see why I wouldn't give a thought to be with someone who feels they own me because it hinders growth. Being in a romantic relationship entails both partners feeling belonged and mutually respected. Each encouraging the other to chase their dreams and go for more. Seeing each other as partners in progress not competitors and not one lording over the other. Reason being that I don't believe anyone owns the other just because they're in a romantic relationship.. Those who feel they do , do it out of insecurity and selfishness. A relationship where one feels they own the other person could be energy sapping or draining and I can't be involved in such. Thank you immensely for stopping by 💚!
