Hello Hivers readers
When my throat started feeling uncomfortable and scratchy like there is a stubborn flema party daily. I headed to Malaybalay’s Health Center at Freedom Park.
The City Health, as we call it, is known for its free consultations and meds. This place proves healthcare doesn’t need to be pricey or chaotic.
First Impressions: The Health Center sits in Freedom Park’s gym area, usually buzzing with December events but calm on a weekday afternoon. No crowds, no noise, just an organized space. Staff greeted me with a smile, a far cry from the rushed vibes of the hospitals and some private clinics.
Step 1: Vital Signs
I wrote my name on their logbook, got a small form, and filled in basic information like age and address. Next stop is the weighing station. A staff member noted my height and weight without fuss.
Then I proceeded to the nurse, who checked my blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate. “Normal tanan,” she reassured me, scribbling numbers on my form.
Step 2: PhilHealth Profiling
Since it was my first visit, I answered a few more questions: menstrual history, surgeries (yes), medications (none). They snapped my photo for their records, no awkward “look at the camera please, please lean back on the chair, move your chair a little to the right ” then done, just a quick click.
Step 3. Records
I gave the small form with my name, address, and all the info about my weight, height, and vital signs. The worker asks me, " Naa nay record- Do you already have a record here? (no) Please provide a folder to store your records.
Step 4:Consultation Triage 🤡A nurse asked me about my concern and directed me to Section C for some information. No long waits—just me and only me, haha.
🤡Booth C
A nurse asked me, "What are your complaints? When did it start? Tell me exactly how you feel. Do you have a cough?
🤡Check Up
A female doctor (I forgot her name, but she had a gentle voice) asked about my symptoms. “Ilang araw na ‘yan? May lagnat ba?” I opened wide as she checked my throat, then felt my neck for swollen glands. “Pharyngitis,” she concluded, scribbling a prescription. “May stock naman ang pharmacy. Punta ka na roon- The pharmacy has stocks. Just go there.”
I headed to the pharmacy and .... got my meds.
The Best Part: Free Meds The pharmacy window had my antibiotics and cough medicine ready. No fees, no “balik kayo bukas- Please come back tomorrow.”—just a small paper bag handed over with a smile.
Why This Experience Stood Out 1. Zero Cost, Zero Stress- From check-up to meds, not a single peso spent. 2. Efficiency- It is very efficient because each step flowed smoothly—no wasted time or redundant questions. 3. Kindness Matters- Staff treated patients with patience, even when explaining basics to elderly folks.
As I left, I glanced back at Freedom Park. Usually a venue for fiestas and dances, today it was a quiet hero. A proof that healthcare can be both free and dignified. Malaybalay’s Health Center isn’t just a clinic; it’s a community safety net. And I’m grateful it exists😘. We don't have a reason not to get medical attention as the symptoms arise.
Thank you for dropping by.
