Adventures In Homesteading (Day 344)

Hello Everyone!

Writing lag, Drying clothes with the heater, More wildflower seeds, Avoiding unwanted shade & Trellises galore!

Alright, I am off to a slow start with the writing this morning... even though I have been awake for several hours now. Honestly, I need to get into the routine of beginning these entries as soon as I wake up each day... so that I will quit 'putting them off' until so late.

Given how rainy that it has been... and how often that I have been napping the last few days... the real 'wonder' is that I am squeezing in time for these entries at all... instead of snoozing the day away. Although, it has not been quite as chilly as it was over the weekend... I still keep finding myself putting on my warm hat, a light jacket and perpetually thinking about warming up the tent with the heater.

I am unsure if I ever remarked upon it... but throughout the winter... I started using the recirculating oil heater to dry out my laundry... one article at a time. Unless of course it is socks, because due to the heater's design I can lay three pairs of them on there... and have them fully dried out in just a few hours or less.

Anyways, it rained for much of the day yesterday... but I did manage to squeeze in a few hikes, planted more seeds... and got another small supply order delivered. This time around when I tried to get more 'bird seed' I was pretty bummed to find out that neither of the two types that I have been ordering were available from that store any longer.

I did however, get another box of that 'bird and butterfly wildflower' seed... which I am hoping to spread along the edges of the property in some of the sunnier spots. The box of seed itself claims that the seeds are 'a balanced combination of annuals and perennials' so I am pretty stoked to see what all grows from them... because the box also has a list of sixteen different flower types.

On a different note, with the construction of all the privacy fencing, vine trellises and shade walls... I have been doing my best to not create a bunch of unwanted shaded areas. For now most of the structures allow a fair amount of sunlight through them... but I know that will change once the vines really start growing in on them.

If all goes well, everywhere that I currently have any type of trellising setup... should hopefully have vines growing on it by the end of the year. There are also plenty of larger vines that I have yet to dig up... and transplant to garden beds at the foot of the trellises... but I have yet to build said all of garden beds... so yup it is just 'one step at a time' with that entire endeavor.

At the moment I am just happy with gaining a wee bit of privacy... and if by chance I can get a bunch of grapes, jasmine and wysteria growing then all the better. Eventually I might even wind up using some of the existing trellises (or build more) to grow things like squash, eggplant and small pumpkins on.

Well, the day is dragging on here and I best get to getting this all wrapped up... so that I can get busy outdoors before it starts raining again. I hope that most folks are doing well. Ta ta for now.

The sun finally peaked out!
