Hello Everyone!
A late start, Phone tinkering, More rain, Into a fray, A heavy sun shower & Making wildflower garden beds!
Alright, it is creeping up on noon and I have yet to work on this entry at all... so I best 'get to it' before too much more time passes. Given how odd my sleep cycle has been, it is no wonder that I am 'dragging my feet' with the writing routine each morning... but last night's rest was even more out of whack than usual.
It was rather late in the evening... and I had finally quit dicking around with unlocking and rooting that phone that I have been tinkering with... in an effort to turn it into a media player. Of course, I could not settle with using the phone 'as is' due to how the carrier's background software would silently patch it... to disable USB tethering... and disable 'Developer Options' altogether anytime that it connected to the internet... which makes the phone pretty useless to me.
I will spare everyone the details of what it took to unlock and root a cheap prepaid carrier locked phone... and just say that now I know how simple that the process can be if all the steps are in one concise place... which of course they were not! Early on in my experiment, I apparently buggered something up... because although I can now flash and boot custom ROMS... none of the hardware for the WiFi works anymore.
To wrap all that up, I know where in the steps and when the error (that I created with the WiFi hardware no longer being functional) happened... plus how to perhaps eventually fix it but ugh. Basically, all that I can do at this point, is either keep playing with various custom ROMS (sans WiFi) or find... and download the official ROM for the device... and start all over with the process and hopefully avoid the error.
Anyways, all that stuff was quite the rabbit warren (as it has been for many rainy days now) and last night I had finally drifted off to sleep... for maybe thirty minutes... when all hell broke loose outside. At first (just like when it happened before) it took me a moment to realize that I was not dreaming, the sound was real... and it was coming from a bird outside the tent.
I am unsure if I have ever leapt from the bed and gotten through the tent 'door' so fast my entire stay here... as I did last night... as I ran into the midst of the rooster and hen facing off against that same big possum. Thankfully, this time the possum did not have a hold of either of the birds (and they are fine today) but whoa that bugger yet again hissed at me... and slowly sauntered away when I told it to leave the damned birds alone!
The whole ordeal was a 'cluster-cuck' and avoidable... because I failed to close the door to where the chickens are roosting at night in that covered dog crate that I recently stuffed with straw. I have grown way too accustomed to the birds just 'taking care of themselves each day' (and night) but at this point... I have been super lucky twice now not to lose a bird to that same possum... or to anything else for that matter.
Of course, I zonked out back to sleep again, not long after all the upheaval... but not before letting the dogs walk around the area... to hopefully stop any further disturbances for the evening. I have no idea where Emilia wound up roosting at, because I could not find her anywhere after initially seeing her in the fray with the other animals as I burst from the tent.
On a different note, it kept raining on and off for all of yesterday... and the only time that the sun truly came out was late in the afternoon... and even then it started to 'sun shower' like crazy. It being so bright outside and pouring down a thick sheet of heavy rain drops... was quite the juxtaposition and I remember thinking 'at least it is not hail this time' or something along those lines.
Regardless of all the rain, I took a garden rake down to the sunny area downhill of the camp... and scratched up a bunch of small 'flower beds' in places that get sun early in the day. I did my best not to disturb any areas that already had heavy vegetative growth... and focused on scratching up all the bare (or mostly bare) spots, sprinkling on some 'wildflower' seeds, gently stepping on the seeds, covering the seeds with lose soil, doing more stepping... and finally raking any displaced leaves back over the bare spots minus the sticks.
We will see how the overall 'wildflower experiment' turns out over the coming weeks... and it is worth mentioning... that by and large I am currently just planting them anywhere and everywhere that I can... to see where they will do well at. The two ounce boxes of the seeds, only cost two dollars (plus tax) in USD... so overall it is really my time that is the heavy investment... much like my ongoing experiments with planting the 'bird seed' everywhere... because it is also inexpensive and easy.
Well, I think that is all the 'words that I have in me' for this entry. I hope that most folks are doing well. Ciao for now.
The clustercuckers!
