Hello Everyone!
Skipping a day, Clearing the debris pile, Delayed terrace building, Dogs on the loose & That sole chanterelle!
Alright, I have been awake for most of the evening but it is now approaching the time that I have the writing slated for... so I may as well try to stay on track by pushing through the fatigue... and spelling out what I can. I was feeling a bit pissy yesterday morning over not having any hotspot data, or funds, or much food, or coffee, or drinking water... and let myself sleep in instead of writing.
I did not sleep in super long actually but by the time that I was 'up and about' had I started writing... I would have missed out on the small window of time that I had to work outdoors while the weather was fair. At first, I felt kind of bad about skipping the writing... then I told myself 'I will do it in the evening' which put it out of my mind enough for me to focus on the outdoor projects.
Without getting into too much detail, I was rather 'hot to trot' to get more of that large tree debris pile (near the driveway) bucked down... and get that area in general cleared out so that I can garden in it. I also wanted to gather more material for wooden stakes and poles so that I could continue my terrace building endeavors... which at this point are leaning heavily towards doubling as Hugel mounds.
Amazingly, I cut through the bulk of that big debris pile on a single charge of my 60 volt battery... and did it with just the chainsaw instead of taking my usual route of using a combination of the chainsaw and the circular saw and swapping the battery between them. There are still a few remaining smaller trees and one large trunk that I need to finish sectioning up... but otherwise only the giant root balls are left.
I am really unsure what I am going to do with all the root balls... but I have been leaving about a meter of trunk on them and leaning them against each other (propped up by the trunk portion) so that the rain will wash the dirt and clay off of them. Some of them actually look super neat once they are all 'cleaned up' and a few of the dogwood ones might make for some nice shelving... if I can figure out how to cut them in half.
Anyways, it was a super productive morning that was only interrupted by the dogs getting loose... and romping off to 'who knows where' and me having to go 'lay in wait' for them to round them up. To explain that last bit, there is only one creek nearby... and I quickly learned here (on previous romps) that after about twenty minutes... they will show up along that creek to get water after running all over like the little heathens that they are.
That little 'side quest' really tangled up my plans for the day, because I needed that time to work on the terraces some more before the rain arrived. So I shelved working on the terraces, staged all the 'to be used' material near them... and then set about raking up all the smaller tree debris that were littering both the driveway and the area where the big pile was.
After all that jazz, I was feeling pretty wiped out but I went on a rather long mushroom hike to see if anything new was popping up. Although I was really hoping to find more chanterelles... there is still only that lone one that I saw before... and as tempted as I was to pick it I am glad that I left it there for its spores to spread.
Well, I am going to wrap this up and I gotta say that I am absolutely cringing over the idea of having to construct a post... and (yikes) uploading a picture over the 12KBps that my connection is throttled at currently. I hope that folks are doing well. May the bandwidth be with you! Ciao for now.
