Hello Everyone!
A very early start, Staying off my feet, Catching up on expenses, Flea medicine inbound, & Window shopping bamboo fencing!
Alright, I have been awake now ever since waking up around ten last night... and am now finally deciding that I best get to working on this entry... before the urge to take a nap grows much stronger. With how much that I have been sleeping lately (in an effort to get my foot to rapidly heal) it is a wonder that the idea of getting more of it sounds so appealing.
The dastardly foot injury, has 'kept me off my feet' pretty much this entire time since it occurred... and the swelling did not begin to recede until just an hour or so ago. The wound itself has been 'weeping' a lot (in a good way) and it does not look like it is going to give me any sort of major problem unless it gets infected.
With this heatwave happening, it has been easy to sit in front of the fan for hours on end... but it is also creating a ripe environment for bacteria and such. Not that I have gotten up and hobbled around too many times... but each time that I do... I either walk on my toes or on the ball of my foot so the wound stays as far away from the ground as possible.
It would be really hard to get my foot sanitized enough to bandage it without trapping stuff in the bandage... and also creating a little micro climate (due to the heatwave) and all the sweating that would occur. Instead, I have been squirting some peroxide on the wound after I hobble around... and making sure to keep a very close eye on what the wound looks like.
If I see any sort of infection (or further inflammation) happening my plan is to bite the bullet... thoroughly clean my foot, apply some antibiotic ointment, apply a thin gauze pad and wrap my foot in an 'ace' bandage to hold the gauze in place. To be clear none of that is remotely appealing to me, because I want the wound to 'breathe' at the moment... and I do not want to restrict the blood flow with anything and as for fully cleaning my foot... I live in the woods... I need those proverbial 'helpful germs!'
On a different note, I got some funds contributed to me... and spent the bulk of my day going through one billing system after another getting everything caught up... which was quite the weight off me to say the least. That perpetual dread of being 'short' on funds when the inbound bills are coming nearly once a week (throughout the month) whilst trying to scrape together enough for water and food... that dread... is exhausting to the point where the stress becomes debilitating.
In short, it felt really good to stretch that 'dread time' out to several weeks away instead of days away... and I guess that the best way that I can describe it is going from a near panic swim (to avoid sinking) to treading water. Hopefully, I will even be able to use this small reprieve to find a way not to be in that position again if I can help it.
Another relief was finally being able to afford ordering some proper flea meds for the dogs... and I even got the single pill (lufenuron) monthly kind that breaks the flea life cycle on top of (nitenpyram) the instant kill kind. As soon as those meds arrive my morale is going to go through the ceiling... because although that last medicine that I used (the pyrethroid drops) knocked out ninety percent of the fleas... these meds will get them all.
Part of the reason that I am so stoked over wiping out the pestilence (besides the obvious reasons) is because I can then look at moving to a new camp closer to the building... and not bring the fleas with me to that area. I know that I mentioned maybe using 'bug bomb foggers' in the tent once that I move out of it... but I think that spraying everything down with pyrethrin... and coating everything in diatomaceous earth should do the trick.
When it comes to moving camp, I am in no hurry because currently I still have a heck of a lot to get done around the building (and driveway area) to make the area inhabitable. As far as creating some privacy in that area goes, an easy solution might be to enclose the porch with some bamboo fencing... that I can get on a roll and cut to size... and if it is made well enough... maybe even use it as actual fencing.
In other news, I am concerned about my corn that I recently transplanted into the hugel mound terrace... because I have not been able to water them and I am unsure if it has rained or not. Any rain that might have fallen while I was napping... could have easily evaporated without me noticing due to the high heat... and rain aside it has not even been all that humid at night... just hot.
Well, it is time to wrap this entry up so that I can work on something else (or take a nap) for a while. I hope that folks are doing well. Ta ta for now.
