Adventures In Homesteading (Day 394)

Hello Everyone!

Off schedule again, Studio setup daydreams, Nuking the fleas, So much split focus & When boots work too well!

Alright, I am a few hours behind schedule with my writing routine again... because I got a wee bit distracted working on a project and lost track of time. Given that I still have not been able to get any physical work done (and that I have been cooped up for too many days on end) working on anything that makes me feel like I am being productive... is (in my perspective) a good thing.

I could probably be using all this 'free time' much more wisely than I have been... but between keeping up with current events and tinkering with my computer related projects... it is at least not a total waste of time. On a related note, I keep thinking that once I get the studio setup (in the new building) I am going to create a space dedicated solely to those kinds of technical projects.

The entire notion of finally having a studio to work in, is totally 'out of this world' to me... and to be in a position where I can set it all up from scratch (in an already insulated and 'finished out' building) feels like a lifetime achievement. Many of the things that I have squirreled away over the years for various projects will finally not only be in the same room... but they will also be unpacked... which is something totally unimaginable to me as to what that will feel like!

For all the pissing and moaning that I have done along the way over the years about 'storage' and 'not having space'... I feel like now that I actually have them available... that I best not piss the opportunity that it presents away. That said, I am also in no hurry to just 'unpack' everything and it all be a jumbled mess... which is why I have been going about the process slowly... and looking at how to create sufficient shelving/storage before actually unpacking anything.

Currently, my main focus has really been getting the area around the building situated... and shuffling stuff from the storage tent to the building has been a close second. My focus has also been split on figuring out where I am going to move my camp to... and just what it will take to achieve building something more permanent than a tent as far as dwellings go.

Since I finally got the flea medicines for the dogs yesterday (and gave the meds to them) I am one step closer to being able to move... because I can stop worrying so much about bringing the fleas with me. I will still have to soak (or wash) all my linens and clothes in hot water with borax in it, treat the tent with diatomaceous earth... and do all the other stuff that I have detailed in other entries to get rid of any remaining fleas and/or their eggs... but it is a step in the right direction.

It was pretty awesome seeing that nitenpyram work so quickly after administering it late yesterday morning... because within the first thirty minutes to an hour the dogs had stopped scratching and I began noticing less fleas jumping on me. With this crazy ongoing heatwave, it has been insane dealing with them... and now that I have a good supply of flea meds (and an easy way to get more) it feels like a massive aggravation (and stress) has been lifted from me... plus the dogs are happier and healthier!

All that jazz aside, my foot is continuing to heal up just fine without any signs of infection... and it no longer pains me overly much while I hobble around on it. I still cannot walk on it properly... unless I put a sock on it and stuff it in a boot (because the boot absorbs all the load) and for the most part I have continued to walk on my tip-toes or on my heel.

I would not say that wearing the boot is all that uncomfortable... but it gives me a false sense of the injury being a lot more healed (and ready for action) than it actually is. In short, those snakeproof Muck boots are so firm, provide so much absorption and displace my weight so well... that it would be easy to not notice the stress being put on the center of my foot.

Anyways, I can hopefully get back to doing stuff outdoors in the next few days... because now even more of it has scabbed over and there is only one tiny sliver down the middle where the scab is not present. Aside from the surface wound the internal 'bruised' part is also feeling like it is on the mend... and much of the 'tightness' I was feeling in the muscles there has receded.

Well, I am going to call this entry 'good enough' and get on with the editing and posting portion of my morning. I hope that folks are doing well. Ciao for now.
