Yesterday was my first time going back to the office this week. Ever since our company implemented the new schedule, we’re only required to report once a week while the renovation is ongoing. Half of the office space is currently under construction, so the setup feels a little different, but at least the once-a-week arrangement makes the commute less of a hassle.
It just so happened that my scheduled office day aligned with our CEO’s townhall. Unlike the usual formal presentations, this one felt more like a talk show. Our CEO shared updates about the company’s progress, goals, and future plans in a conversational way that made it more engaging than just slides and numbers. It’s not every day that we get to see the “human side” of leadership, so I actually enjoyed listening.
After the session, HR surprised everyone with snacks. They prepared Tim Ho Wan buns, which were neatly packed in individual boxes with three pieces each. I honestly loved the packaging—it made the treat feel more special, like a small gift after a long day. Along with the buns, there was also a huge customized cake that became the centerpiece of the snack table. Everyone gathered around, chatting while enjoying the food, and it gave off a light, celebratory vibe in the middle of a workday.
Once work wrapped up, I decided not to waste the momentum and went straight to the gym. It felt good to balance the indulgence of the day with some movement. The transition from a corporate environment to the gym was refreshing—like switching gears from professional focus to personal wellness. By the end of the night, I felt accomplished both at work and in my own health goals.
All in all, yesterday was a nice reminder that even ordinary workdays can turn out memorable when mixed with little surprises—whether it’s a different kind of CEO talk, a box of warm buns, or simply sticking to my routine and making time for myself.
