Waking up before dawn has never been my strongest suit, but that morning was different. I joined my very first sunrise yoga session, and the experience was nothing short of magical. The event was held at the top of the mountain overlooking the city—a spot that gifted us with the most breathtaking view as the first light slowly painted the horizon.
We arrived at 5:00 a.m., just in time as the class was about to begin. A light drizzle greeted us at first, and for a moment I worried the event would be cut short. Luckily, the drizzle stopped before it turned into heavy rain, almost as if the skies were giving us a little blessing before clearing the way for the morning.
The yoga class was designed for beginners, which was perfect for me since I was completely new to the practice. Looking around, I noticed I wasn’t alone in this journey. With thousands of participants gathered, most of us were beginners—stretching, wobbling, and laughing quietly through the poses. Despite the large crowd, there was a shared sense of calm and curiosity. The instructor guided us gently, making the practice feel welcoming instead of intimidating.
When the yoga ended, the day was far from over. The organizers had prepared a variety of recreational activities to enjoy after the session. There was a huge canvas set up for community painting where people could freely add their strokes and colors, creating a masterpiece together. Some lined up for tarot card readings, curious about what the cards might reveal about their journeys. And then, the sweetest surprise—free hot chocolate and sticky rice, or as we fondly call it, puto sikwate. Nothing could be more comforting than sipping warm chocolate while savoring the local delicacy after an hour of mindful movement.
Walking away from that experience, I felt both grounded and inspired. My first sunrise yoga not only introduced me to the practice but also gave me a sense of belonging in a community of people eager to embrace wellness together. It was more than just yoga—it was a celebration of life at dawn.
That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!
Sending some love and light
