Sea Genie - Splinterlands Art Contest Week

Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful day. Today I feel especially motivated, as I decided to join the exciting artistic challenge organized by the vibrant Splinterlands community. This creative initiative, which began just four days ago, is reaching its final stage... and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of it! With inspiration driving me, I immediately immersed myself in the fascinating universe of cards offered by the game. Each card is a small work of art, a world unto itself, with its own narrative, aesthetic, and visual possibilities. For me, reinterpreting them through my artistic style is an enriching experience: it allows me to give them a new dimension, a new life, through my personal perspective. After exploring several options, there was one card that completely captured my attention: Sea Genie. This character belongs to the Water Splinter and is classified as a common rarity card. Its design evokes the classic figure of a genie, with a mystical presence that I found ideal for developing a work with character and depth. In this post, I want to share with you not only the result of my work, but also the story surrounding the protagonist of my illustration: Sea Genie. Hola a todos, espero que estén disfrutando de un excelente día. Hoy me siento especialmente motivado, ya que decidí unirme al emocionante desafío artístico organizado por la vibrante comunidad de Splinterlands. Esta iniciativa creativa, que comenzó hace apenas cuatro días, está llegando a su etapa final… ¡y no podía dejar pasar la oportunidad de formar parte de ella! Con el impulso de la inspiración, me sumergí sin demora en el fascinante universo de cartas que ofrece el juego. Cada carta es una pequeña obra de arte, un mundo en sí mismo, con su propia narrativa, estética y posibilidades visuales. Para mí, reinterpretarlas desde mi estilo artístico es una experiencia enriquecedora: me permite darles una nueva dimensión, una nueva vida, a través de mi mirada personal. Tras explorar varias opciones, hubo una carta que capturó por completo mi atención: Sea Genie. Este personaje pertenece al Splinter de agua y se clasifica como una carta de rareza común. Su diseño evoca la figura clásica de un genio, con una presencia mística que me pareció ideal para desarrollar una obra con carácter y profundidad. En esta publicación, quiero compartir con ustedes no solo el resultado de mi trabajo, sino también la historia que rodea al protagonista de mi ilustración: Sea Genie. The Genie was first summoned hundreds of years ago, and now he is prisoner to the ΛZMΛRÉ summoners, doing only their bidding and little else."

To begin this work, I immersed myself in the search for a visual reference that would capture the strength, mystery, and presence of a truly imposing character. I looked through a wide variety of images, exploring different silhouettes, poses, and expressions, until I finally found the figure of a genie that brought together the key elements I needed to shape the protagonist of this publication: Sea Genie. That image became the starting point for my creative process. From there, I began a profound reinterpretation, merging the visual essence of the character with narrative nuances specific to the Sea Genie universe. My goal was to integrate these elements coherently into my artistic style, seeking a representation that not only respected the character's original identity but also reflected my personal and creative vision. The entire drawing took me approximately eight hours of continuous work. From the first strokes that defined the general structure of the figure to the final details of color, light, and shadow, each stage was carefully guided by the intention to capture the energy and character of the figure. Through the accompanying images, you will be able to appreciate how Sea Genie evolved in each phase, from its initial conception to its final version.

Para dar inicio a esta obra, me sumergí en la búsqueda de una referencia visual que capturara la fuerza, el misterio y la presencia de un personaje verdaderamente imponente. Recorrí una amplia variedad de imágenes, explorando distintas siluetas, poses y expresiones, hasta que finalmente encontré la figura de un genio que reunía los elementos clave que necesitaba para dar forma al protagonista de esta publicación: Sea Genie. Esa imagen se convirtió en el punto de partida de mi proceso creativo. A partir de ella, comencé una reinterpretación profunda, en la que fusioné la esencia visual del personaje con matices narrativos propios del universo de Sea Genie. Mi objetivo fue integrar estos elementos con coherencia dentro de mi estilo artístico, buscando una representación que no solo respetara la identidad original del personaje, sino que también reflejara mi visión personal y creativa. La elaboración completa del dibujo me tomó aproximadamente ocho horas de trabajo continuo. Desde los primeros trazos que definieron la estructura general de la figura, hasta los detalles finales de color, luces y sombras, cada etapa fue cuidadosamente guiada por la intención de capturar la energía y el carácter del personaje. En esta publicación, los invito a recorrer conmigo el proceso detrás de esta creación. A través de las imágenes que la acompañan, podrán apreciar cómo fue evolucionando Sea Genie en cada fase, desde su concepción inicial hasta su versión final.

Process

In the initial stages of this creation, I began the sketch by drawing multiple guide lines to help me build the overall structure of the character. These first marks were essential for defining proportions, posture, and expression, acting as the visual scaffolding on which I sculpted the figure until it achieved a solid resemblance to the reference image I had chosen. Once the basis of the sketch was well established, I moved on to the color phase, at which point the illustration began to come to life. It was here that the process took on a new depth, especially when incorporating light and shadow to enhance the volumes and details. Of all the stages, the one I enjoyed the most was undoubtedly the creation of the face, where I was able to play with tones to capture its essence and give it character.

En las etapas iniciales de esta creación, di comienzo al boceto trazando múltiples líneas guía que me ayudaran a construir la estructura general del personaje. Estas primeras marcas fueron fundamentales para definir proporciones, postura y expresión, actuando como el andamiaje visual sobre el cual fui esculpiendo la figura hasta alcanzar una similitud sólida con la imagen de referencia que había elegido. Una vez que la base del boceto estuvo bien establecida, avancé hacia la fase de color, momento en el que la ilustración comenzó a cobrar vida. Fue aquí donde el proceso adquirió una nueva profundidad, especialmente al incorporar luces y sombras que realzaran los volúmenes y detalles. De todas las etapas, la que más disfruté fue sin duda la elaboración del rostro, donde pude jugar con las tonalidades para capturar su esencia y darle carácter.
