Sturdy Axe Warden - Splinterlands Art Contest Week

Welcome, everyone, and I hope you're having a great day. Today, I'm thrilled to be participating in the new artistic challenge launched by the Splinterlands community. This initiative, which started four days ago, is about to come to an end, so I decided to dive right into this creative experience! Without wasting any time, I set out to explore the fascinating universe of cards offered by the game. Each one is a unique microcosm, with its own story, aesthetic, and visual potential. Personally, I enjoy reinterpreting them from my artistic style, giving them new life through my eyes. After reviewing several options, there was one card that completely captivated me: Sturdy Axe Warden. This character belongs to the Fire Splinter and has an uncommon rarity, which makes him an even more intriguing figure. In this post, I want to share with you the story surrounding the protagonist of my work: Sturdy Axe Warden.

Bienvenidos a todos, espero que tengan un buen día. Hoy me llena de entusiasmo participar en el nuevo desafío artístico impulsado por la comunidad de Splinterlands. Esta iniciativa, que arrancó hace cuatro días, está a punto de llegar a su fin, ¡así que decidí sumergirme de lleno en esta experiencia creativa! Sin perder tiempo, me lancé a explorar el fascinante universo de cartas que ofrece el juego. Cada una es un microcosmos único, con su propia historia, estética y potencial visual. Personalmente, disfruto reinterpretarlas desde mi estilo artístico, dándoles una nueva vida a través de mi mirada. Tras revisar varias opciones, hubo una carta que me atrapó por completo: Sturdy Axe Warden. Este personaje pertenece al Splinter de fuego y tiene una rareza poco común, lo que lo convierte en una figura aún más intrigante. En esta publicación, quiero compartir con ustedes la historia que envuelve al protagonista de mi obra: Sturdy Axe Warden.

"The sturdy axe wardens are proof that in Grimbardun, martial skill knows no gender. These mountain dwarves train from youth in the deep halls beneath the mountains, forging strength and precision through years of mining, sparring, and tradition. Their beaded facial hair may carry the scent of floral oils, but behind the braids are warriors hardened by stone, steel, and stubborn will. They hail from the Kingdom of Grimbardun, a city-state carved into the Central Fire's Northern Agniavas, where discipline and accuracy are valued as much as brute strength. Grimbardun is home to the original great-axe-throwing contests, and the sturdy axe wardens remain among its most respected champions. Their voices often echo ahead of them on the battlefield, calling out challenges like “Technique over testosterone!” as they enter the fight with axes in hand and grins wide enough to shake a troll’s nerve."

To begin this work, I immersed myself in the search for a visual reference that would convey the strength and presence of an imposing character. After reviewing numerous images, I finally found one that brought together the essential elements I needed to shape the protagonist of this publication: Sturdy Axe Warden. With that image as my starting point, I began the creative process of reinterpretation. My approach was to fuse the original silhouette with narrative nuances specific to the universe of Sturdy Axe Warden, carefully integrating them into my artistic style to shape an authentic and personal version. The entire drawing took about 8 hours to complete. From the first strokes that outlined the figure to the final touches of color and shading, each stage was guided until the character's goal was achieved. Para dar inicio a esta obra, me sumergí en la búsqueda de una referencia visual que transmitiera la fuerza y presencia de un personaje imponente. Tras revisar numerosas imágenes, finalmente encontré una que reunía los elementos esenciales que necesitaba para moldear al protagonista de esta publicación: Sturdy Axe Warden. Con esa imagen como punto de partida, comencé el proceso creativo de reinterpretación. Mi enfoque fue fusionar la silueta original con matices narrativos propios del universo de Sturdy Axe Warden, integrándolos cuidadosamente en mi estilo artístico para dar forma a una versión auténtica y personal. La elaboración completa del dibujo tomó cerca de 8 horas. Desde los primeros trazos que delinearon la figura hasta los últimos retoques de color y sombreado, cada etapa estuvo guiada hasta conseguir el objetivo del personaje. Espero que disfruten las imágenes que acompañan esta publicación y que puedan apreciar cómo fue evolucionando el personaje a lo largo de cada fase del proceso creativo.

Process

In the early stages of this creation, I began the sketch by drawing a series of guide lines that would allow me to build the character's structure. These initial lines were essential for establishing certain proportions, posture, and expression, serving as a visual foundation on which I molded the figure until I achieved a convincing resemblance to the reference image I had selected. Once the basis of the sketch was consolidated, I moved on to the color phase, where the process took on a new dimension. Here began one of the most stimulating and rewarding moments: the application of light and shadow. Of the entire process, what I enjoyed most was working on the face with the colors that make it up.

En los primeros pasos de esta creación, comencé el boceto trazando una serie de líneas guía que me permitieran construir la estructura del personaje. Estas líneas iniciales fueron esenciales para establecer ciertas proporciones, postura y expresión, sirviendo como cimientos visuales sobre los cuales fui moldeando la figura hasta lograr una semejanza convincente con la imagen de referencia que había seleccionado. Una vez consolidada la base del boceto, avancé hacia la fase de color, donde el proceso adquirió una nueva dimensión. Aquí comenzó uno de los momentos más estimulantes y gratificantes: la aplicación de luces y sombras. De todo el proceso, lo que más disfruté fue el trabajo fue la elaboracion del rostro con los colores que lo conforman.
